Saw a documentary last night based on the book 'Paddy Whacked' by T.J. English. Basically it's how the Irish were the first 'mob' in the US, starting in the 1840's in New York, Boston and then later Chicago. The Sicilians didn't gain a foothold until the late 1800's in New Orleans, when they shot the Chief of Police David Hennessy, who was of Irish decent. It goes on to describe how the Kennedy's used the Italian mob to get JFK elected and how Bobby Kennedy went after them when he became attorney general, leading some to speculate that the JFK assassination was indeed a mob hit. Finishes by talking about 'Whitey Bulger', the last of the Boston Irish mobsters, who is still on the lam, and is rumored to be in Ireland.
Anyone see this or get a chance to read the book?
