Bohemians transfer target Chris Turner, the captain of the Northern Ireland under-21 international team, has been handed bail by a Belfast court following an incident, described by a Crown lawyer as sectarian, in Coleraine last weekend.
The 21-year-old is charged with causing actual bodily harm to a man in an altercation at the junction of Captain Street and Killowen Street in Coleraine.
Lawyer Charles McKay, for the Crown, said: The victim is from the Roman Catholic community, Turner is from the Protestant community and police investigations suggest this was a sectarian incident.
Formerly a trainee with English League side Derby County, Turner spent the 2006 season with eircom League Premier Division side Sligo Rovers.
He had been expected to complete a move to Bohs managed by his former Sligo boss Sean Connor this week.
Bail conditions imposed by Lord Justice Higgins at Belfast High Court on Tuesday include a 10pm curfew and the proviso that he reside at his home address in Articlave, Co Derry although he can apply to have the latter condition altered should his move to Bohs go through.
