Where have you been all my life?

Ok, we've had albums you come back to. What about the albums you missed/dismissed first time round, but now love?

Dexy's Midnight Runners - Don't stand me down.
Ok, it came out before my album buying days, but it took until a year or so ago for me to get it, and I absolutely love it now.

Stevie Wonder - Talking Book.
I grew up knowing and hating '80s Stevie Wonder. Then I started to listen to mid '70's stuff. I could have named any of four albums.

Minutemen - Double Nickel on the Dime .
A year or so ago I never heard of them.

Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica.
For this I have no excuse, even if it was released before I was born. I thought a best of was enough for me. I was wrong.

There's probably loads more I'm too ashamed to admit.

Most albums in my collection are ones that i missed out on because I wasnt born or I was too young to appreciate the music!

All The Style Council stuff. Viewed them with suspicion when I was a youngster, couldn't live without now.
Also, the early Michael Jackson stuff.

I considered that alright. The ones I listed, I had ample opportunity in the mean time, but dismissed them for various reasons (snobbery).


I used to think 'Come on Eileen' was a great song in a 'drunk at a wedding' context. I've only recently realised how fantastic a pop song it is, in any context.

Style Council is another one.

only recently got into zero7. got all their stuff now and think its all top class.

Pretty much 95% of what I listen to.

It's not my fault, I'm only 21 :o

Never liked Green Day, despite my sister and brother liking them. I never liked punk music at all. I don't like the way sthe songs are sung.

However, having heard a few songs from American Idiot, I decided to take a chance on it, it was only €8.95 after all, and I have to say I really like it.

SF, if you want to hear good Punk music, the first Clash album (eponymously named). It doesn't get much better than that.

A bit of Stiff Little Fingers or That Petrol Emotion would also give you a good flavour Frank!

Almost forgot - so called "World Music". Scoffed at people who liked it in my youth, now I'm one of 'em!

As of yesterday, Fred Neil. He's the guy who wrote Everybody's Talkin' and Dolphins but I'd -shamefully - never heard his stuff until yesterday; the album to get is Bleecker and McDougal and its up there with the best.

Good choice on Zero 7 - been a big fan for years. Saw them live in Brixton too - quality stuff.

That Petrol Emotion were a brilliant band. They brought out a song called "Big Decison" which highlighted the Diplock Justice System (courts without a jury, I think) in Northern Ireland in the 1980's. From then on, they were seemingly ignored by the British media but were on the playlist of daytime radio in the Republic.
