Cork city has announced the end of their alliance with english 1st division club Leicester city with immediate effect.

club chairman Lennox said, "since taking over the club i have made it clear that i want us to to be at the centre of the football community in Cork and not just a production line for any other club either overseas or here in ireland.

The leicester deal was put in place with the best of intentions by both parties at the time but i now feel that cork city fc has moved on and needs to concentrate developing talent for the benefit of the club itself and for the wider football communitty in cork.

we are continuing to invest heavily in our youth development programme and are making great strides towards achieving our aim of having all of our squad operating on a full time professional basis. the return to ireland of talent like john o flynn and george o callaghan is clear evidence that the pendulum is swinging towards the eircom league and away from the lower divisions in england. this is a trend that we intend to capitalize on by offering young irish talent the opportunity to develop their professional football careers here at home".

I wonder if the split was amicable. I'm pretty sure the Leicester deal was more than an "alliance" -- contracts are contracts...

Excellent. I like the way he´s phrased it as well, it´s suggesting the future he wants for the club- now if only he get rid of murphy we could start making real progress

Was not that deal for 5 years?

Did Leicester renege on the deal due to lack of funds as they are something like 50m in debt with only 30m of that supposed to be the mortgage on the stadium.

AFAIK it was up to 5 years, but there was an opt out clause after 2 or 3 for anyone who wasn´t happy with it.

I think that old press release shows how easy to stick a few words on paper without ever following through.

Admitadly its a bit dodgy to see "youngsters" on an offical press release but doesn't look like any strides made towards permanent training facilities.
