New team in EL from Fingal

Just spoke to a friend, who is involved in junior football. His club were invited to a presentation given by Fingal Co Co, about the plans for a new club in the Fingal area which will enter the 3rd tier of the EL. The team will initally play in Morton Stadium but will build a new state of the art stadium and training ground based on Ipswich’s training ground. The manager will be Liam Buckley, who was at the presentation. The club has the backing of FIngal Co Co, and local business men. It will expect the local clubs to act as feeder clubs for Fingal FC in return for the free use of the state of the art training facilities.

I haven't read anything in the papers about this. My source is genuine. The presenttions were made in The Plaza hotel in Tyrellstown and a hotel up in the airport. Just wondering has anyone else heard anything about this. Will it affect Bohs move to Harristown and will it affect Shels move to Morton.

Great, just what the league needs - another dub club.

Read something about "Fingal FC" a few weeks ago in one of them local Northside papers, never paid much attention to it.

Would imagine it will all come to nothing

Another dublin club on top of Rovers,Bohs,Shels,Pats,UCD and pretty much Bray.You also have Drogheda/Dundalk.
If the clowns in Merrion let another Dublin club in then they will show they've learned absoloutle nothing from CHF.Cant' see it happening.

Another Dublin club would more than likely end in failure. There is too many as it is at the moment anyway.

In the context of a three tier league another Dub club would probably be inevitable

Isn't the "A" League supposed to have 20 something teams :confused:

Sounds more like an eventual replacement club for Shels than anything else.

The Fingal County Council is full of self-serving muppet councillors who (give me strength!) want to split from Dublin and make Fingal the 33rd county of Ireland. This Fingal FC would obviously be just ego boost for a right bunch of (pick your favourite insult).

Though it wasn't our one.

The key bit in that information is that they'd look to join the 3rd tier.

Not the First Division, not even senior football - but the level below that ! As other posters have pointed out, it'd be very difficuly to NOT have any Dub clubs in the 3rd level.

Though at the same time they do sound ambitious. If they did join, make a run of it and advanced up the pyramid, it'd be interesting to see who would get crowded out in North Dublin - as surely 3 senior clubs there would be too many. With Bohs's new found wealth, and Shel's perennial problems, you'd have to feel that the Reds would be the most likely victim of any strong and vibrant up-coming club that manages to develop a proper identity for itself (i.e. not like Dublin City).

Anyways - we'll see if anything comes of this first.

P.S. Isn't it a bit much expecting junior Dublin clubs to travel to a training facility built over an existing one in Ipswich....? :p

I was about to say they would not be so stupid but then again

They intend to play in the A League and use Morton, anyone who lives in the area would have got a flyer about it from FCC a while ago.

I work in the Fingal area and while you see the odd Bohs or Shels logo, it's as ripe as most places in Dublin to try and establish a fanbase. Following Seery's failure I'd say any such club will focus on representing a narrow area rather than a large one. There's large housing developments on the way there like in Belmayne so there's decent demographics. Like others, I couldn't forsee a third flight without at least one Dublin club. The idea of this third flight should be to try and introduce a pyramid that will crack the hegemony of the same 20 clubs or so and put pressure on clubs at the bottom of the senior level to keep their head above water. There's no harm in new blood if they can run themselves properly.

Dublin CC has there fair share of muppets too in fairness, though one less since Fintan Cassidy lost his seat... :D ;)

Seemingly a lot of the junior clubs caused uproar at one of the presentations. They found it incredible to think Fingal would spend so much money on this scheme, when at the same time, some of Fingal's facilities were neglected and in decline.

How sure is it that the EL will expand to three divisions?

I don't see immediate success for Fingal if they get into the league. It seems awfully close to Shelbourne and Bohs. Why not a second south Dublin team? Especially with Rovers not moving to Tallaght for at least another season, the one remaining catchment area in the capital would actually be the south of the city.

Good news for the people of Fingal, but I would prefer to see a team from outside the pale to join the league.

Does anyone know if it's an existing club or a new club. I'm involved in a fingal club and we heard nothing. Not that were in a position to do anything. THE FCUKERS ARE BUILDING ON OUR PITCHES, THEY WONT RESOD THE GOALMOUTHS, THEY DON'T GIVE A FCUK. THEY JUST WANT 15K FOR EVERY HOUSE BUILT AND THEY WONT PUT IT BACK INTO FOOTBALL
