International matches in Terryland

Here is some info from aertel on upcoming matches in terryland that are being played by both the under 21 and under 19 international teams:

Manchester United midfielder Darron
Gibson has received his first call-up
to the Irish under-21 squad for the
UEFA Championship qualifying game away
to Greece on August 16.

Don Givens' side will play Greece at
the Panionios FC Stadium in Nea Smyrni
before hosting Belgium at Terryland
Park, Galway on, September 1.

The top team in the three-nation group
will advance to a play-off in October
where they will contest for a place in
next year's finals.

Kevin Deery has been rewarded for his
consistent displays with Derry City
with a call-up to the squad.

Ireland Under-19 manager Sean McCaffrey
has named a squad of 18 players for the
upcoming double-friendly against
Ukraine at Terryland Park, Galway on
August 15 & 17.

The matches will form part of the
squad's preparations for the first
phase of the UEFA Under-19 qualifying
series, scheduled for Macedonia from
the October 6-11.

'We will have two difficult games
against the Ukraine and that is what we
need as build-up for the qualifiers in
October, ' McCaffrey admitted.

Im talking about the city as well as Terryland you know, and not trying to be smart. Also, These matches always get good attendances here

Well I suppose, Galway is a big city so has plenty of people. Never understand why some games are played in Kilkenny though? Never been to their ground but doesn't look great on tv?

Well its up to the people of the grounds to apply to host the matches, the FAI dont just pick the grounds.

Kilkennys ground has two very good stands and is easily accessable from Dublin. Well worth a trip there if only for the beer and food in the city, great spot for parties.

They also

have probably the 2nd best pitch in the country after Terryland (which has improved beyond recognition well done Noel Connolly) and its just over an hour from Dublin.

Terryland also has the u21 friendly -v- Belgium on 1/9/2006 and Sligoman I doubt if the showgrounds will see one for a long while judging by the comments of your own fans on the state of the pitch.

If the Showgrounds sorts out its pitch, it more than warrenst an underage game. The more that are apred around the country the better

Our pitch aint great but the ground itself is miles ahead of Terryland. Like I said though, Galway is a big city so that also helps.

How do you see the showgrounds miles ahead of Terryland? Ok we have only one stand this will change within 12 months, we have a tarmacked car park, a nice club house, a tidier ground if a bit smaller than your own. All the Showgrounds has is one great stand in fairness. The one on the town side has birds nesting in the rafters so the seats are covered in ****! It's a good one for the away fans as far as you guys are concerned!!:D The last time I was there it was just gravelled everywhere and could have done with a good lick of paint!

paint what?the gravel?
Terryland is tidier but the dressing rooms are tiny,it can only seat about 10 and in a squad of 15 it means some have to change in the showers,which only hold 4.Also,1 toilet in the dressing rooms....bit of a joke really.

I wouldnt say Galway is a big city , as city goes it is a small city , but yea it helps

christ on a bike! - it doesnt matter whether you are calling it a town/city/village/hamlet/hovel

its the third biggest population denisty in the 26 counties and ergo should have its respective allocation of underage international friendlies - as there is a fair chance a crowd from such a population density will show up!!!

the dressing room sizes changed a few seasons ago and are up to uefa standards. I take it that your now saying terryland is a better ground so !!!!:D

P.S. Galway's population for the city is a little under 77,000 (good size city, nevermind town!:rolleyes: ) and the countys population is a little over 250,000.
