Drew hasnt a leg to stand on. As a club, Limerick are in a lot worse shape than some of the lower placed Premier clubs.
Waterford will sail through the FAI requirments to join the new league for the following reasons.
1) Our 5 year record is quite good, starting from 2000-01 season when we reached the Cup semi-final, beating UCD along the way. :D
2) We are in a financially sound situation. No debts, no overdrafts.
3) Off the field work: Work is underway at rebuilding the RSC. By the beginning of next season there will be 3000 covered seats in place, new toilets, new athletics track, press facilities, club offices, disabled access, turnstiles and two new all weather training pitches at a cost of in excess of €1m. Further provision will be made for extra covered seating behind 1 or both goals should the need arise. WUFC has teamed up with WIT to offer sports/educational scholarships for new post LC trainees which is an important step in the setting up of a Youth Academy which will be inevitabel once the rest of the RSC complex is refurbished.
4) Cathcment area: Waterford City & County as well as the South East.
Now lets compare to Limerick.
1) Record in the last 5 years has been abysmal.
2) Financially sound.
3) Hogan Park is an absolute tip when I was last down there in 1997, hsnt changed since then I presume. Any plans to do it up within the next couple of years.
So there you have it. Mr Drew would be well advised as the UCD fans as well to accept that they dont quite make the cut this time round, spend an extra year sabbatical in the First Division, using that time constructively at rebuilding their respective club(s) and making a realistic challenge in 2008. Its not all tears girls.
Shame then that 2000/01 is six years ago. ;) Also it's only a four-year history now since the FAI forgot about Kildare.Quote:

Of course they do. But it's illegal to relegate clubs on the basis of geography, attendances, etc.

Hardly an 'abysmal' record partizan, not the best, but not the worst either.
1) Our 4 year record is decent, albeit in the First Division. Our 5 year record would include a trophy, League Cup Final win in 2002 (Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, memory isn't what it used to be!).
2) Financially Sound.
3) Off the field work: Need to get our lease signed for Hogan Park. There are six figure Sports Grants waiting to be drawn down for development work at the ground. The ground itself is nice and tidy but is mostly terraced. Has one covered area, behind the goals. Seating was to be installed in this area but the lack of a lease prevented this. Ground does need to be painted badly - ie perimeter walls, club house etc. Above all else, a stand is badly needed. The current terracing around the ground would probably need to be stepped and finished properly.
4) Cathcment area: Limerick City & County, Kerry, Clare. We already have supporters from all these areas attending games.

Do remember the year you finished bottom some of your games had attendances below 100. Your average attendance was somewhere between 100-200. Having a poor season compounds your problems double.

This year's separate. It's the four years previous to that (starting 02/03). Though you're right - yez avoided re-election by one place then, so I was wrong.
Three points to make.
DD is stupid to have said this. LFC have a lot of friends that want the club to be in teh premier and thriving. Annoying those friends is not a good idea. Someone will lose out in all of this and someone may have to be a lesson of - it's best to keep the head down and not draw attention to ourselves.
With regard to LFC versus UCD re cachement and attendances etc. Considering that no official attendance figures have been published in years how will attendance trends be measured. Also, in response to our low attendances in recent years - I think the important word is "trend". It is clear that UCD, DCFC and Bray attendance trends are flat. irrespective of sucess or league position attendances do not change. In Limerick on the other hand (which is a club which "stands alone in an area of large target market" quote eL document) the attendance figures clearly show a massive upward trend when the club has been challenging at the top of the first. Conclusion - there is more potential for higher attendances at LFC games than the other 3 dublin clubs. That is what the FAI is looking for.
Our Waterford friend's post is more compelling for what he does not say. He should also point out that who the chief executive is - will he put Waterford in the first division? :rolleyes:
