Outlandish claims by David Jeffreys
This is taken from eleven-a-side. There's a touch of the Special One about Jeffreys and to suggest that the authorities are out to get Linfield is absurd. Roy O'Donovan has a hefty ban as well. These sort of comments are of little benefit to anyone, least of all the organisers.
Linfield manager David Jeffrey has slammed Setanta Cup organisers following the imposition of an additional one-match ban on striker Glenn Ferguson which rules him out of this evening’s vital final round clash against Glentoran at Windsor Park.
Ferguson was cited by referee David McKeon following his dismissal during the February 28th meeting with Glens at the Oval.
He served a ban in the victory over Shelbourne, but has now been dealt an additional suspension by the Irish Football Association arising from the referee’s report.
And Jeffrey feels the authorities are hell-bent on making things difficult for his side in their attempt to successfully defend the trophy.
He told the Belfast Telegraph: “Glenn Ferguson is out suspended for the Glentoran game and it is ridiculous because he has already served a one-game ban.
"He should never have been sent-off in the first place and now he’s been given an additional suspension on top of the automatic ban he has already served.
“[It] tells me that there are people trying to do whatever they can to stop us keeping hold of this cup.”
