Blarney and Carrigaline seek to make history
Blarney is an historic town that is famous in its own right but now the footballers of Blarney United are bidding to attract headlines through their own endeavours. The Blarney footballers were playing in the first division of the Munster Senior League last season and earned promotion to the Premier Division. Alongside them were Carrigaline United who accompanied them into the top level of Intermediate competition.
Not content with that, both Blarney and Carrigline set out to make a major impact and this they have achieved. For both teams will today contest the quarter-finals of the FAI Carlsberg Intermediate Cup. This represents a major achievement for both for, like all national competitions, the Intermediate Cup is a highly competitive activity and success is difficult to achieve.

Blarney and Carrigline prove that Cup football is still magic
The dream lives on for Blarney United and Carrigaline United, two County Cork teams who were last season playing in the First Division of the Munster Senior League.
They both won promotion to the Premier Division and they created history over the week-end by successfully coming through their matches in the quarter-finals of the FAI Carlsberg Intermediate Cup.
Blarney shocked the holders, Wayside Celtic from Dublin, by beating them 2-0 at O’Shea Park.
Carrigaline United won a seven goals thriller with Crumlin United, who are leading the Leinster Senior League and who were beaten only once all season in the League.
The third of the quarter-finals played on Sunday between Avondale United and Tolka Rovers ended level at 1-1 while Fanad United successfully met the challenge of Bangor Celtic in the other quarter-final on Saturday.
