Germany midfielder Sebastian Deisler has been ruled out of the World Cup after he injured his right knee, the German football association said.
An examination of Deisler's right knee, after he injured himself in a friendly against Austria, showed that the injury was worse than originally thought.
Deisler's loss is a bitter blow to Germany coach Rudi Voeller who had already lost three important players in Christian Woerns, Jens Nowotny and Mehmet Scholl.
