I had heard Aldo complaining that he wasn't interviewed but then again it was in the Evening Herald so who knows. Was there some retraction by Aldo recently ?

Yeah. His agent came out with a statement saying there was never an interview arranged. I can't remember what he said but something was marked down for December/January. Aldridge got the wrong end of the stick.
I read aldo's article in the herald and basically his agent is being blamed for the mess. Or at least, what Aldo thought and what his agent thought were two seperate things.
Well fair play for him for clearing it up publicly. At least he won't have burnt any bridges for anything in the future.....;)
It does seem strange though that no appointment had ever been set up with Aldridge. At the risk of repeating myself, he would have brought more to the table than Staunton. Why also would his agent allege that a meeting had been arranged if there never was one ? Is Aldo trying to retract statements made in the heat of battle and not wanting to burn his bridges ?

My guess is that Delaney, having had first hand experience of dealing with Staunton (player negotiations, Saipan etc., spending time with the squad during WC02) was impressed by Staunton's personal traits. AFAIK Delaney & Aldo have probably never even met so Aldo was already at a disadvantage. Delaney probably thought years ago that Staunton was management material. As CEO or whatever he is, Delaney's entitled to make his choice.Quote:
