Has Fenlon improved at all?

I was just thinking to myself about next season's title race. While I feel Shels have a better squad than Cork, better individual players and more resources I think that one differing factor between the two clubs are the managers. Tactically I think Rico is a lot more aware and on the ball than Fenlon. Particularly in Europe Fenlon seemed to be showed up as very tactically limited and frankly bizarre in his team selections. Did Shels fans see any improvement in this respect at the end of this season on your hot run of form? Do you think Fenlon has improved or will he always have these shortcomings? If he continues to adopt that tactical attitude in Europe I think your club will never progress.

Rico has brought the City team onto european style of play so has little tactical decisions to make when playing in Europe. Fenlon seems too uncertain & cautious when in Europe so changes his team & formation. Shels are setup to score goals & get knocked out whereas City are more likely to progress 1-0 on aggregate.

i dont want to knock nutsy but i wasnt totally sold on his brand of football. It kills me to say it but Cork were playing a far better style of football against Slavia than we were against the Steaua Fascists

I would have said the exact opposite, to be honest, except for the going through/getting knocked out bit. Cork went at Slavia Prague as if they were an eL team - they took a bit of a hammering at times, but they could have scored one or two and learned a lot more than Shels did in their 4-1 aggregate defeat against Steaua.

I think that was tactical gamble by Rico. Tried to play a bit more open than usual to nick an away goal but didn't work. Home game would have been a lot different at 1-2 instead on 0-2. Overall City are big possession team whereas Shels have got worse at that.

Had gotten worse, but there was a big improvement towards the end of the season in that regard, hence the turnaround in results.

Crunch

I think getting all the new players and trying to fix things around din't help. But we will see next season.

i just hope we play more football on the deck and not route one stuff. That was ugly and ineffective last season. It was the main problem with out game. We just booted it up the pitch and put ourselves under pressure. If we can sort that out and Nutsy can figure out his best team along with the correct substitutions then we might have a chance.
