Odds on Brady slashed

Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Liam Brady replacing Brian Kerr as Republic of Ireland boss.

Former Republic star Brady has moved in from 33/1 to 7/1 with Ladbrokes and is now their joint third favourite with recently-retired former skipper Roy Keane and Under-21 boss Don Givens.

The one time Arsenal midfielder and Celtic boss has become a serious candidate for the post after a number of bets were taken on his appointment in Dublin and Glasgow.

Ladbrokes spokesman Robin Hutchison said: "We've seen hundreds of euro being placed for him on the internet and in our Dublin shops this morning, and we've been doing a brisk trade in the east end of Glasgow too.

"The Football Association of Ireland are in no rush seeing as they have no game until February, but given the fact they are short of cash, Brady may be the ideal appointment."

Another former Celtic manager, Martin O'Neill, remains 9/4 favourite to land the job with the bookmakers.


Do these people know something we dont?

they must have seen something in Don Givens that no one has ever seen ie a semblance of managerial abillty

He is in as close as 9/2 on paddypower at the moment!!!!

good god if givens got it...there would be war...cant see that happenin though...

what might happen is that they get someone like brady appointed as caretaker until around the time of the next qualifier, with a view to getting someone full time then-would bookies pay out if that was the case?

Are these odds for next manager or next permanent manager.

Does Don Givens have dirt on someone in the FAI? How is he still employed?

Must have. Sure Kerr was judged on his qualifications/results and on the rankings/seedings. I don't know if there are rankings for the U-21s, and there aren't any rankings at the moment, so the logical thing to do is judge Givens by his results and qualifications.

Qualified tournaments - none.

Results - Better than Albania, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Cyprus and Luxembourg.

Could be doing that to make up on the money the fai lost out on by not qualifying for the world cup:D :D

If the FAI wanted to make simialr cash to what they'd get from WC quialification Delaney would have to appoint a long odd candidate like Bertie :D

What a great idea! But seriously how the "duck" does Givens have ANY job with the FAI? And Brady hasn't a hope of been appointed. Even in the short term. The bookies love all the someone placed 50 quid on Brady in East Lothian. Davies in the Telegraph suggested Brady as the manager a few days ago and so this must be fuelling the bets. If Delaney thought Troussier should have gotten the job the last time then why not this time?That is where to get some value. He will try to get a big name first like MON or even O"Leary(villa takeover hes out of a job). For me if Australia don't beat Uruguay then the FAI should try for Hiddink. Excellent, proven coach.

Brady will never take the post, he knows he is great at talking but when it comes to management he will be found wanting. The same applies to Giles, he couldnt manage a under 7's team :D

Strikes me that opening up a book on the next manager is a bookmaker's dream.

Brady said after the Swiss game that he was not interested. Has he changed his mind or are the bookies just reflecting betting patterns?

Brady is doing a fantastic job as Arsenal's under-age supremo and wouldn't touch a badly paid part-time crappy job from the FAI.

Giles was a half-decent manager in his time - did very well at West Brom and won the cup for us in 78.

Is it not the job of Bookmakers to reflect betting patterns and nothing else. If a load of money goes on a particular person it drives down the odds. If they hear a rumour they can aticipate it and drive them down themselves to protext themselves. Bookmakers are very wary of next managers bet as there is a lot of room for them to be burnt if bets are put on just before the manager is announced.
