Another Cork player who came through Ringmahon initially at schoolboys. Joined Cobh’s academy just before Covid before moving to Burnley in 2022 and then Wednesday.
His younger brother Pijus was also with Ramblers at a similar time and is now with Stoke.
Fair play to Gabby on the U21 call-up. First ever Irish squad to have two ex-Cobh players (alongside Adrien Thibaut)
Think I read somewhere recently that they grew up very near to the Umehs and the two sets of brothers played a lot of football together as kids. Will be interesting to see how far all four of them can go.
Came on as a sub early in the second half for Wednesday last Saturday against Stoke when they were reduced to 10 men and had an outstanding game. Lots of paeans of praise from Wednesday fans for his performance as they kept a clean sheet. Moran and Cannon played full 90 minutes for Stoke while Lawal was an unused sub.
Should have kept my mouth closed. Started the next game. Wednesday 3 down at half time. Subbed. They draw 3-3. Unused sub next game.
Off the bench to score the equaliser against Millwall
Nice composed finish at the far post. Well done to him.
Starts again this evening against Coventry
Starts at CB for the Owls in today's home game v Middlesbrough.
Would have to think there's a decent chance for this lad to get a fair amount of Championship experience this season given that, one week out from the first game, Sheffield Wednesday only have 14 senior players on their books. It's likely to be experience that involves losing a lot of games and getting relegated mind you.
Also among the 14 players is 21 year old forward Charlie McNeill, who I believe is Irish eligible.
They also seem to only have one senior keeper, so Killian Barrett may well feature in match day squads also.
At least they have a handy opener, away to Leicester...
Perhaps Owlsfan can offer some insight here?
It will probably take more than an Owl to get out of that sort of situation !
Otegbayo does indeed start in what is likely to be a tough game for Wednesday.
Killian Barrett hasn't been given the sub keeper jersey, which is a shame as it sounds like the first choice keeper will be sold in the next few weeks.
However, in a classic piece of nominative determinism to rival other goalkeepers such as Kepa, Neto and Alex Palmer, the sub keeper's name is Logan Stretch.
