One of Ireland's most successful football clubs, Bohemians, recorded a pretax loss of more than €540,000 for the year ending November 30, 2004, according to accounts just filed. This represented a downturn on the previous year, when the club kept its losses to €180,000.

A note in the accounts states that the club incurred “significant cash flow deficiencies'‘ last year, and has “undertaken a number of plans to utilise the company's resources and generate income'‘.

These plans include the sale of a small piece of land at one end of the club's stadium, Dalymount Park in Phibsboro, Dublin 7, to Albion Enterprises for €750,000.



The accounts state that the club has already received a €200,000 deposit, with the remainder to be paid when Albion gets planning permission to develop the site.

It is also stated that the directors of the club have entered into an arrangement with the Revenue Commissioners “giving the club time to discharge the outstanding liabilities'‘. The board has also reduced the budget on playing and background staff from €1.2 million per year to €900,000, and is also “engaged in a strict review of expenditure to reduce overheads'‘.

Bohemians recently ended its policy of having a fulltime squad of players, and now employs the players on part-time contracts. The club has also parted company with a number of players, including former Irish international Dominic Foley.

The accounts state that the club expects to generate €65,000 by renting its ground out to fellow Eircom League side Shamrock Rovers. It is also in discussion with regard “to a large number of large sponsorship arrangements'‘.

According to the accounts, the club's operating expenses increased from €1.5 million in 2003 to €1.9 million last year. Most of those expenses were incurred from the club's wage bill, which increased from €1.1 million to €1.4 million during the year.

The club generated €1.35 million in income last year, down fractionally on the year before.

another disgrace.

Is it me or does €1.9million a year seem a bit much for an irish club? That's around €36,500 a week!?

Its sad to see this happen ..... seem to be chipping away at it all the time.

What i'd love to have seen happen at Dalyer is over by the shopping centre, build a multi-storey car park, which would get revenue during the week and on match nights aswell. If it were run correctly, it would have paid for the full development of the ground.

How is the Dalymount trust going ..... haven't heard from them in a while .... can someone give us an idea of how things are going ??

Its sad to see the stat of Dalymount. The Jodi is rightly praised but half the Connacht st is a ****ing car park, the other half is run down and they're selling half the shopping centree end. I understand they're getting a new small stand being built for them but still...

Bohs can't keep selling parts of their ground so i think this is probably a last throw of the dice. Another stand won't make much difference either as no crowds to fill it.

Those accounts show it costs 500k to run a club excluding wages.

1.4m in wages by maximum of 30 staff = average 46k+ a year which IMO is too much.

Especially when you look at their squad and see so may kids there. Bound to be on practically nothing which means the senior players must be on massive wages

That wage bill looks enormous. I assume that will have dropped a bit this year with the boys going to Shels. Would that figure include bar staff though I wonder?
