Following disappointing losses against Norway and Iceland, the Girls in Green hoped to finish*a high and started well by scoring inside two minutes but ultimately fell to defeat.
The game was played at Concordia Piotrków Trybunalski in Poland, with Clodagh Fitzgerald starting in goal, Clodagh Daly and Keeva Flynn as the*two centre backs, and Hazel Dongean leading the line up front.

Ireland started very brightly, with Rebecca Devereux getting in behind the Polish defence and finishing calmly into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 early on.
Poland fought back however and were able to get themselves back into the run of play. Julia Ostrowska scored in the 12th minute to level things up. The home team kept that momentum and scored again in the 16th minute with Anna Skrzypczyk slotting it home.
Ireland had a few chances from corner kicks, but couldn’t capitalise. On 30 minutes, Poland were in on goal again and Keeva Flynn was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box, therefore preventing a Poland chance. Ireland were down to 10 players for the rest of the game as she was sent off. Poland’s Zuzanna Witek took the penalty to make it 3-1 to Poland at half-time.
Three more goals came for Poland in the second half, with Zwiazek, Lapinska, and Ostrowska scoring again in added time.*
A tough result to take for the*WU17’s, despite having good moments of play, similar to their two other games in this round of*qualifiers.
