Second-half goals from Ragnhidur Porunn Jonsdottir,*Hrefna Jonsdottir and substitute Thelma Karen Palmadottir swung the game in favour of Iceland after Kiera Sena had opened the scoring for Ireland.
Played at*Concordia Piotrków Trybunalski in Poland, the Girls in Green made some changes to their line-up following last Thursday's narrow defeat to Norway and also had to deal with some injuries too.
Still, they started brightly and went ahead on 27 minutes when Cork native Sena fired in to take a one-goal lead into the break.
Iceland were dangerous throughout and eventually got a goal of their own on 65 minutes to level matters. At that stage the momentum had swung in their favour and they took the lead on 78 minutes when finishing things off with a third goal in added time.
This defeat will be tough to take for Ireland as it leaves them bottom of Group A2 despite playing well in both of their games so far. Next up is hosts Poland on Wednesday.
