Well yellowbelly if your like me on the waiting list, im hoping they will increase the amount of tickets available on the block booking list, presuming they play in croke park, theres no good reason why they wouldnt

I did my time on the waiting list and am on it now. Presuming they move to Croker I cant see there being any need to be on it as they will have difficulty selling it out for most matches.

Just out of curiousity how long were you on the list?
I think they will keep the scheme, guaranteed sales of tickets and as well when they do move back to lansdowne in 2045 when completed, they will need such a scheme in existence.
Depends on the game, qualifiers will always sell well, majority of them would fill croker, will be half empty for friendlies though

I was on the waiting list only about a year and a half. I was surprised to get on actually. I dont think the demand was that big then as we had failed to qualify for a few tournaments, up to getting on it I had got tickets for all games in the previous two campaigns except the turkey play off at lansdowne. Seems a lot harder now though. Tell the truth I am thinking of giving it up as you keep getting stung for all these ****e friendlies all the time.

I was on the waiting list for 4 years!! I joined April 2001 and just go on around Feb this year. I started getting letters offering me tickets for friendlies then out of the blue I got a letter telling me I was on the block booking scheme and offering me tickets for Israel,France & Swiss home games, I snapped their hands off!!
Well there are plenty of guys on this board that would love to be "stung" for friendlies as you so put going to see your country play soccer. I am sure many of the guys on this board woudl love to be in your position. I happily go to every Ireland home game and if there is some friendly I cant make it too, I take the tickets anyway as most people in my position would do. Cant believe you consider going to and Ireland game as been stung for a friendly.Quote:

ah you poor thing having to take tickets for the friendlies ... ffs people would give their right arm to be guaranteed tickets for every game and it was your choice in the first place to get 4 so you gotta live with the friendlies. Ireland are in fact one of the few countries who actually take our friendlies seriously as you will see from our record in friendlies.. Why should we play away friendlies when they are a good source of income for the fai ...

Some fair points there and you could be right. One thing I will say though is that the requirement to take tickets for friendlies only came in after the Brazil match a couple of years back so it hasn't always been the rule.
I have had tickets for every game at lansdowne for the last 7 years (bar the turkey play off). Its not that long ago that ireland couldnt sell our competitive games never mind friendlies. When they are playing at croker they will have problems selling out a lot of competitive games so shouldn't alienate people who have been good income streams over a number of years by demanding too much.
Another point is that before this rule there were always a lot more kids at friendlies, as it wasn't hard to get tickets, and they were a bit cheaper. This is not really the case now, its just the same old faces.
The FAI taking a short term view of things is not very surprising I suppose. I dont think the amount of money you are prepared to give to the fai is a valid measure of your worth as a fan, as some seem to be suggesting here.

Tickets for friendlies are cheaper.......
There were plenty of tickets for the Italy game available on Ticketmaster up to a few weeks before the game
There's nothing wrong in making money you know. Without money there are no funds for the underage teams etc etc. Also the friendlies are not "for the most part rubbish". Ask the international managers whether they think they're rubbish. Sure they're not bone crunchingly competitive but it gives the manager a chance to try out things and have a look at new players. I've enjoyed most of the friendlies I've been at - possibly because we've won most of them.Quote:

Thew most competitive one I have been to over the past few years is Australia, which was a good game. Italy the other week wasn't bad either. I think the reason we do so well in them is that we try harder than the opposition who generally just stroll about tring not to get injured. It doesn't seem to help us much when it comes to the competitive games though, in some ways it probably gives us a false sense of security. One day we are playing the czech republic off the park the next day we are struggling to score against the faroes.Quote:

You also give out that we play so many home friendlies. But away friendlies would cost even more as you have the flights, hotel and drink and the price of tickets.
