Wexford FC v Bohemians (Friendly)
Overall, an interesting rather than exciting friendly in Ferrycarrig Park this evening as both sides struggled to find real fluidity in their football, particularly in the first half. Wexford started with Heffernan, Webb, Dunne, Boyle, Douglas, C. Levingston, Chambers, Robinson, Adeyemo, McCann and Hanratty. Both sides struggled to create much in the first period. Bohs couldn’t really get Coote or Bucko on the ball in midfield during this half with the result that much of the distribution was handled by their defenders. Connolly, down Bohs right wing, looked their best prospect. In contrast, Wexford seemed largely content to bang the ball in the general direction of Adeyemo although Wexford’s left wing of Dunne and Hanratty looked potent enough. As a result, chances in the first half were scarce enough. After Heffernan made an early save for Wexford, Bohs lost their right full after an accidental clash of heads with Wexford’s Dunne. On eight minutes, the Bohs physio was called onto the pitch again after two Bohs players collided following a Wexford corner. On 22 minutes, a Wexford header went a yard over the corner of the Bohs goal, and a Bohs attacker then had a glancing header just wide of the Wexford goal. The goal for Bohs, when it came, resulted from a palmed clearance by Heffernan in the Wexford goal which fell directly to Ali Coote, and he blasted the ball to the back of the Wexford net. 1-0 to Bohs. A chip over Heffernan which the excellent Ethan Boyle cleared off the Wexford goal-line then finished the half. 1-0 to Bohs at half-time.
