Floodlight supporters

About half an hour before ko the other night. Moses was shouting where were ye on sunday to the people turning up for the under 21 game. I then shouted sunshine supporters to which Moses turns around and replies Floodlight supporters more like it. It got me tinking that maybe the big crowd wasnt because of the novelty of the international match but because of the novelty of the first flood lit game. Unlikely I know but we'll know for sure when we see what kind of crowd turns upfor the under 19 match on April 10. Just wondering does anbody remember what kind of crowd turned up for the first flood lit game in Bisopstown?

The first floodlight game in Bishopstown was against Shamrock Rovers. Crowd was about 5-6000. I think it was a 1-1 draw and the city goal, a shot from outside the area, was scored by a liam murphy. Wonder what he's up to now? ;)

There should be just as good a crowd for the U 19s, as it is a competitive match. Irerland are leading 2-1 from the away leg.

And the way I look at it, is that if 5000 people were in Cobh to see them, there will be that at least at the Cross.

When are the tickets available for that one???

I thought the first flood lit game in the Swamp was against Leeds Utd. on a dreary Tuesday night or was that just the official unveiling of the lights?

Obviously as there was an English team in town the place was full.

I remember when Gary Speed scored the winner in the second half the whole place errupted in euphoria in my astonishment. I never realised that there were so many people from Leeds living in Cork!:mad:

Snatch you're right. The Leeds game was on the tuesday night and the Rovers game was on the friday night of the same week. I'd also forgotten what a miserable night it was and a crap game if I'm not mistaken.

As for the u-19 game I'd reckon the crowd will be as big as the other night. I saw the 3 games last November and we have some fine players especially Thorton from Tranmare and the 2 full backs can't remember their names but I think one is with Sunderland and one from Manchester city. Hope CP gets a run out at some stage. He came on in the first game in Cobh and played well. I think he got a slight knock as he didn't feature in the other 2 games.

hopefully some of them will have realised that the place isn't a complete dump and actually looks like a REAL soccer ground- maybe they'll be back!

The reason i don't like "friendlies" & almost always avoid the ones against the bigger "english" teams.

at least those friendlies get people out to see the place and generate some cash. you can't really complain if some people who have never been to a city match turn up in a leeds jersey, because they might come back in a few weeks without that leeds jersey
