2012 Olympics

Well, today is decision day.

London
Madrid
Moscow
New York
Paris

All await the news on the host venue selected for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

I couldn't care less about the games themselves but I would love to see London win for a number of reasons.

1. Why not London?
2. Massive investment in infrastructure means plenty work for the Irish over here and many Irish will come over for work.
3. Ireland is a prime location for training camps in the build up to the games.
4. We (my company) will hopefully win some contracts out of it.
5. The people of England deserve it.

Good luck to the London bid.

I'd prefer the French to win it, purely because I will (should) be able go to either London or Paris if they stage it to see some of the games, but I think Paris is just a far nicer city, and so would prefer it for that reason.

I've worked in both and have to say, London has more to offer.
Paris has some nice historical areas towards the centre but it's just like any other major European city when you start to move away from those areas.

Haivng always lived here I would love for London to get the games, because of the redevelopment, the business, the jobs, being able to see them first hand.

From a work point of view, I hope we get them as I will have guaranteed huge amounts of work for the next 6 years :o

Come on London :)

nobody in england wants it though apart from london, and it wont affect most of those an hour outside of london.

If they don't like it now they'll be all on the bandwagon by the time it happens.
There is a sense of defeatism in England where many people are knocking the idea of hosting the games because they feel they can't compete with Paris, Madrid and New York.
Hard to believe this is country is part of a kingdom which once ruled most of the world.

Try telling that to all the builders from the North East who are working on Wembley. They'll all want to work on the Olympic village too.

hoping London wins it too, for the extra employment for thousands.... random question though. all the news reports on tv pronounce 2012 as 'twenty twelve'. Is it not 'two thousand and twelve'? :confused:

no because london, and the rest of england are like two different places, pa just go a couple of hours outside london and you will find this, most feel that it wont affect them at all and they wont benefit, they also feel that those in london are ramming it down their throats to support the bid, and also that they are spin doctoring saying the whole country wants it. do you not remember the thing about birmingham?

two thousand and five, two thousand and twelve. hardly a major difference! ;)

Everyone drops the 'and' in the middle of years to be honest POS - not just the yanks.

I've lived between the West Midlands and the North West for over 2 years so I know that there's a huge divide. You just have to listen to Macy to know that. ;) Luton airport is probably the furthest you've been north of London. :p

Manchester saw a massive inward investment as a result of the Commonwealth Games in 2002 so it would be very ignorant of them to begrudge London the 2012 Olympic Games.

Just to keep things in perspective, there's a huge divide between Parisians and the rest of the French and we all know how Irish people feel about the Dubs, so the north south divide in England isn't anything which should be given too much notice.

I couldn't care less what City gets it but at least the media hype will be over - Sky News have gone overdrive on Olympics bid for months now.

The city that wins it will the one that gave the best bribes. You only to look at idiot that represents the Olympic Council of Ireland & hes probably one the better ones internationally.

I agree completely. There is work to be had for everyone, all over the country if London get this. Any compnay throughtout the country that could be involved in the process of getting the capital ready for the games will benefit.

Whats good for London will be good for the rest of the country. Admittedly a few people will disagree, but if London get it, that will change pretty sharpish :rolleyes: .

But counter that with the thousands of jobs this will generate, the improved facillities available to all, the re-development of ****e areas which have up untill now been left to rott. The investment into improving public transport dur to the para olympics - Its a disgrace that many cant use the underground or other aspects of public transport :mad:. Its about the bigger picture for me, and many others.

Oh and with regards to the taxes, I have no idea how much I pay now (only been paying it for a year ;) , so a bit more probably wont make too much of a difference :D, especially given that the olympics should hopefully make me money anyway
