Rovers in serious trouble now....

Mileson and Quigley, and another possible investor, have pulled out of a deal with Rovers. Thats Rovers 2 main options gone now, they are in serious trouble.
The club could have only days according to some hoops fans. The examinership ends in 4 weeks but the club could fold before that even it seems.
Desperate pleas on the Ultra's mb for fans to give more money.
Rovers could either disappear or go amatuer in the 1st divison. Some of the more decent Rover's fans believe they might not have a club in a month's time....

Waterford could go as well.

This is really bad for the eL as a whole and the league could be in serious trouble...... :(

Knew it had to happen when heard Roddy boasting about all the new cash he'd have to get new players in.

Surely worst scenario would be if had to go amateur. At least would still have a club if only in 1st division. Rovers could easily pay for cheap semi-pro players in the 1st division...and crowds probably at lowest anyway.

Waterford are in serious trouble. The money they got from Sunderland went to creditors and they can't afford to sign a new manager. Apparently they've issued a plea to Wallace to invest in the club, which presumably would mean Dolan coming in. Might be their only option but would Dolan be interested seeing as how his player acency business is so lucrative???

This is terrible, would be nothing short of disastrous to lose any club never mind two of them.

unfortunately, eventually one club will eventually go. we went very close a couple of years ago, and many other clubs have had a similar experience. unfortunately i think a club folding is the wake up call that many clubs might need. pretty much every club is over-spending, and wage levels in the league are just not sustainable, which unfortunately means its only a matter of time before someone goes.

we got lucky that a couple of kind sugar daddies saved our skin, not everyone will be so lucky

A good few clubs have folded in Switzerland over the last few years. While it is bad it is not going to mean the death of a league.

You wont see rovers go out of existance anytime soon. Once the examinership is finished it will be a 3 way battle wit Waterford, Rovers and Harps to avoid relegation.

There's a lot more clubs in Switzerland though. We don't exactly have a load of clubs looking to take their place in the EL.

There'll have to be radical changes to our staff, but we'll survive. Relegation doesn't worry me. We've been facing death for the past decade, do you think something as irrelevant as relegation bothers us?

Besides, more away trips in the First Division! :D

If they need to cut costs and so get relegated so be it. It happened us before, it wouldn't mean the death of the club. Roddy in charge and with any kind of access to the clubs finances on the other hand...

Slash/ed - its rare I agree with you but you're spot on - clubs dont 'get into trouble' because the fates are conspiring against them - they are simply mismanaged by people who overreach themselves in the hope that they can spend (borrowed money and time) in pursuit of success. Its a reckless business model. In fact its not a business model at all - its just gambling with other peoples money - and in this case other peoples clubs as Roddy has done with whats left of Shamrock Rovers. Waterford ditto. For a wake up call read this months Business and Finance for what one Irish millionaire said in response to a question on whether he'd invest in a league of ireland club. basically : "no fckin way! unless they were amateur as LOI clubs dont make enough money to break even"

Read in the Mirror's eL section today they were looking at signing Alan Reynolds? I assume that's Collins just talking to get them in the papers again? Think even the Rovers fans will agree they're in no state to be buying in experienced (and costly) players like him at this stage...

yes and on the way to building up debts of 2mill plus that factor never stopped them signing highly paid players before - see what i mean by negligent mismanagement

people made decisions to get them to where they are now - it didnt all happen by accident

We were going to try and sign Reynolds if a sugar daddy came along. Roddy probably would have tried to sign Robihno if that sugar daddy came along. Same with Gavin's contract, it was only going to be signed if a big money takeover happened.

Wallace is right. 100% right. In this league its possible to p1ss your money into a club just to keep them in the premier (not even top 6!). The only 'return' for flat out investment is the potential to be in with a shout at another gamble in the CL qualifiers. Hmmm spectacularly attractive to blue chip big players!

Brian Lennox rescued Cork City from the brink because he was a football fan and he funds the club from his own pocket. He makes a substantial annual loss and says that he can't afford to do that for more than a few more years. Other potential money men in Cork lost interested when they discovered that City didn't own Turners Cross. Investors who are interested purely in profit would tear down the stands and erect apartment blocks in league grounds within ten years if they got their hands on them. Unfortunately this league relies on benefactors rather than investors.

It all comes back to te same problems, Sky Sports and RTE are killing us ... we are being denied the opportunity to bring in sponsors and advertising, using television a a vehicle. We are always on the back foot over this ..... FAI/The league dont have a back bone or the bottle to garner a proper television deal for the league, a deal that nearly every league in Europe has in some form or another.
It also doesn't help with Devlin and Dolan and Givens getting rid of our best players for 30 pieces of silver every two minutes.
No one will invest in the league unless the get a return .... the rug is continually being pulled from under our feet by all of the backstabbers in the league. It will always be the same unless it changes.
The clubs/fans aren't prepared to do anything about it !!
