Daly: No Intention of Quitting
By Sports.com's ROBERT REID
Cork skipper Declan Daly has no intentions of hanging up his boots. Daly, who is 36 in May, insists there is still a lot left in the tank.
Anyhow he wouldn’t want to bring the curtain down on such a distinguished career on what has been a bitterly disapppointing season for the Leesiders.
“I’m nearly 36, but so what?” he told Sports.com. “My mind is as sharp as ever and, more importantly, the legs are still willing. I will know when it is the time to go, but it certainly isn’t now. I won’t overstay my welcome, that’s for sure.
“Some players don’t know when to call it a day, but I don’t want to get caught in that trap. I have enjoyed my football too much over the years to be remembered for the wrong reasons.”
Cork travel to Dublin to play UCD in the eircom League Premier Division at Belfield Park on Sunday having blown their chances of European football next season.
Their slim hopes of making it were ended by their 2-0 defeat against Shamrock Rovers at Turner’s Cross on Wednesday. No one was more disappointed than Daly.
“European football has almost become an annual event on Leeside, but we have missed the boat this time and I can’t begin to tell you how disappointing that is,” he said.
“But we have fallen short this season and you usually get what you deserve when all is said and done. We have nothing to play for as such, but we should keep on plugging away as if there was something at stake. We owe it to our fans at the very least.”
Cork boss Liam Murphy is delighted Daly is staying on. “Decky still has so much to offer,” he told Sports.com.

Judging by some of the posts here, it's already a bit late for that. In fairness to Deccie, he's a very nice guy and has been a great servant to the club, but he should have gone at the end of last season, this season at latest.
