International ref, Dr. Markus Merk was the ref pencilled in for the recent Munich derby (TSV 1860 München -v- Bayern) last weekend. Imagine everyones surprise when Dr. Merk failed to appear at the ground, the ref instead being a Mr. Berg. Asked after the match why the change had taken place, Mr Berg informed the press that since Bayern were playing Kaiserslautern the following weekend and Dr. Merk is from Kaiserslautern (both Bayern and Kaiserslautern are in the top6 and title contenders) Dr Merk felt he would be open to accusations of bias if he reffed the Bayern game.
