Don't take this the wrong way but what are your reasons for supporting Dublin City and did you previously support Home Farm?

Why shouldn't we support Dublin City?

F*#k Homefarm, I can't stand them, nothing gives me more plessure then when my own schoolboy club finish higher in any leagues that we compete in.

I support Dublin City because I want to, I only started following one team about 18 months ago, up to then I went to any EL match that I felt in the mood for but never felt drawn to support any one team, then I went to the Dubs and felt like I was getting in at the start of something new and exciting.
No old baggage to drag along, no clicks, no trouble makers just a small band of people who love football, they were not there living on past glories. Just people who want to see their club grow and be part of history in the making.

It is only a matter of time before more people join the Dublin City ranks, and when they do watch out, imagine a club who do so well with such a small band of supporters.

My biggest query is why do supporters of other EL clubs feel it is their mission in life to slate Dublin City all the time. Have you not enough going on in your own clubs?

The way I see it, Dublin City will only draw support from either
- people who used to follow Home Farm/Everton/Fingal/anyone
- people who never really bothered with an eL team before and DC
are now their local team.

I cant see many people who previously supported Shels/Bohs etc changing
to Dublin City.

Its a pity ye dont have a bigger fan base as it looks quite crap to have
a team top of the league and only have a handful of supporters there week in week out

P.S. not having a go at lack of supporters or anything cos we havent exactly
been filling stadiums across the country.

Regarding people slating DC all the time I reckon its cos there was really
no need for another Dublin team (imo), especially when they have to try and
start a fan base from nearly scratch.

All new teams have this problem when they start, if it had been a team from kerry that took up the vacant plcae they would have to start from scratch and build a fan base. Our biggest problam is a lack of consistant places to play(no home ground) but that I assure you will one day be sorted, until then we will continue to grow(slowly).

Im my opinion we are a new club, not a rehash of Homefarm, I have nothing to do with Homefarm as have most of the rest of our small support base.

It's great followin a fresh & potential team especially & well, naturally wen it's ur own as wen the big time arrives & achivements are eventually captured, we the supporters feel we are true & real supporters to the footballin world.

I did ask you not to take offence! I asked out of interest, not to slate the club or its fans! Dublin City have (obviously) very few supporters but I was merely wondering if those they do have supported Home Farm before they 'became' Dublin City or if Dublin City are bringing new support to the league.

Your reasons are fair enough and I'd have to say that Dublin City are probably the best run club in this league - I just remember being at the last Home Farm/Fingal game and reading in the programme that the club's ambition was to represent Ireland in some sort of European league (hence the name change) but didn't make any mention of becoming the best club in the eircom league, so I'm a bit sceptical about the morals of the club.

Anyway best of luck for the rest of the season....

I didn't take offence, instead I was trying to convey the sentiment that I feel for Dublin City and my support for it, also my bemusement at the efforts of some EL league supporters that cannot seem to understand that we have as much right to exist as they do, even if they think we are a micky mouse outfit and even though we have not been in existence for a hundred years.

If the abuse is meant to be some sort of wind up then I am all for it, but on the other hand if it is just moaning because they see us(Dublin City FC) in some way to be a threat then that would explain the reason why we attract so much attention.

Drums had a decent fan base, when HF took over the crowds disappeared. The name has changed over the years, Tolka was sold, Whitehall became home base, then Morton, then Tolka now Richmond Park. Suppose we shud adopt ur signature too then rite? :rolleyes: Nah... as a club as young as Dublin City it's a feat that we haven't gone through 20 grounds under the circumstances up to now.

I think Derek's rite in relation to the fact that it may be the case that the Vikings give threat to the more established teams in the Irish Leagues if not pure jealousy. Sorry then that we made it to the 2007 Champions League Quarter Final 2nd Leg & got knocked out! :p ;) :D

Well, I've long since refrained from commenting on this kind of ill-informed twaddle, but I am compelled to leap in at this point to assure you that Rocky's involvement in eircom League football is neither motivated by nor conducive to his financial wellbeing. To put it very mildly. A more civic-spirited chairman you will not find.

I tend to agree with you re: our support base, not because latent support for the club doesn't exist (it does) but because the club itself has, rare counterexamples notwithstanding, shown little enthusiasm or imagination for tapping that latent support. We appear to be operating on the mistaken premise that on-field success will, in isolation, bring the crowds out. Hence, the footballing component of the club is allowed to take precedence. And hence, we play at Richmond Park to crowds that barely scrape three figures at the behest of Mr. Keely (who nonetheless fails to engineer victories against Kilkenny City.)

He may very well be civil minded but actions speak louder than thoughts. I mean whay has Dublin City done for the local community, apart from compete with them for local sponsorship.
