Preview: Dundalk vs Athlone Town

One quarter the way through the first division season, Dundalk and Athlone get the first round of reverse fixtures under way. Dundalk will be hoping to build on their emphatic victory over Monaghan, their first "home" game in Monaghan.

Fifth and seventh, Dundalk are just one point ahead of Athlone and their meeting in Athlone in the opening round finished 0-0.
Athlone manager Stephen Kelly is happy with his side's progress but knows they must again lift their game if they are to climb the table.
"After the first round of games we are sitting in a fairly respectable position. I feel that our play and possession probably deserved a few more points but unfortunately we have slightly lacked the killer punch to put teams away. We have done a lot of work on this in the last week or so and although we lost to Dublin City, we did create a good few chances.
