Today is the 20th anniversary of the Bradford disaster. Considering the discussion here recently about Heysel which occurred 18 days later after Bradford, I thought some people might be interested in this link from the BBC website

I remember hearing about it but didn't realise the full scale of this tragedy. Quite surprised it didn't receive more coverage in today's press.
Given the high profile games that were Hillsborough and Heysel, people often forget about this tragedy. It was the most horrific incident I've ever seen at at football match. The authorities subsequently were too slow in sorting out the overhaul of League grounds which was drastically needed at the time with the result that 96 people lost their lives at Hillsborough and only then was action taken.
No there wasn't much coverage in the major English media but even in general though there has never been much coverage about what happened in Bradford especially in comparison to Heysel and Hillsborough. I was five when this disaster occurred but when I was growing up I always heard Heysel and Hillsborough been mentioned, but never Bradford. I only learnt about this last year and I was quite surprised. I think the problem is that Bradford at the time were not a major club and that the English FA, the media and football fans were not interested and also, especially the FA, failed to recognise the threat that another disaster like this could easily happen elsewhere. After what occurred at Bradford and Heysel it wasn't until Hillsborough was there a change in attitudes and action finally taken to prevent future disasters ever happening again.Quote:

Terrible tragedy. Never understood why Heysel and Hillsborough get so much more press than this
I suppose Heysel and Hillsborough were live on telly, which would have made a difference. Heysel also involved hooliganism, which was a particular buzzword back then.
