Celtic fans - frustration
As someone who is not a Celtic fan, I found this piece from today's Indo interesting:
The tension of the title run-in is also getting to the Celtic fans. They took their frustration out on the players, particularly Irish international Aiden McGeady when losing the ball, but O'Neill has called for more support from the crowd...........O'Neill said: "I know young Aiden McGeady lost the ball a few times but that's when we should get a bit more encouragement. I just felt that we could do with a bit more help from the support but they turn up in their droves and if you pay your money then your can say what you want."
Why did fans vent their spleen on young McGeady? Was he/is he that bad? Is he that much worse than the others? Is it cause he chose Ireland rather than Scotland? Hopefully he never has a bad game for Ireland or the lad is on for some dog's abuse!
O'Neill seems to accept that while it would be nice to get a bit more encouragement, supporters, cos they pay their money, can say what they want. This obviously explains why the anti-Rangers booing at Ireland games is considered OK by Celtic fans. Hopefully O'Neill does not literally mean fans can say what they want. There must be some limits.
Finally is the honeymoon over between O'Neill and the Celtic fans? Very strange to hear him having to call for more support from the same fans who he has always extolled as the best in the world.
