Really should have collected all 3 points tonight, but I would have settled for honours even before the match, great atmosphere in the shed, lots of banter and Macca scores again. The mistake for their goal was unfortunate (who was it Nolan / O'Mahoney), we had the ball cleared out, only to pass it straight to their left back who switched it to the right winger who in turn put it straight to Vaughans head to finish. They maybe had 1 or 2 other chances in the game but Mooney dealt with everything else they threw at him.He is improving with every game, as is the team.At least we are going in the right direction now on and off the field.Offical attendance tonight, according to Len Burke was 1087 and I think the half time entertainment of a schoolboy 10 min 6 a side (Kilmallock tonight) match is a great idea.I believe Pallaskenry will be on at half time for our next home fixture. If we can generate more interest this way then it can only benefit the club......and the supporters get a good kick out of it also.

Poor enough game last night ..Pity we did not win it as those games are the ones to get the nice 3 points..****e football but 3 points .Still Limerick look better as a unit now at least and dont look like giving anything away easy and hopefully the lads can stay unbeaten at home..It would have been nice to win last night to keep the crowds turning up..Hopefully there will be an equally good one for the Galway game
Tought last nights game was poor as a spectacle. Dublin in my view could have won by 2 goals. I think that Noel O'Connor would be beter served if he had the team trying to play football. Hoofing the ball everywhere anywhere isn't the answer and it showed last night with their equaliser.
I know I sound a bit harsh but you have to call it as it is . The only way that Limerick looked like scoring was from a set piece or a mistake from Dublin. People can argue all they want that we are building etc, but if you go through the team, I feel that we are good enough with the players that are there to win the likes of last nights games. If we try to play football..... not ping pong.
Must say I walked away from Hogan park disappointed at Limericks performance :(
Ya I think the Tactics were to turn there Full backs last night as they were fairly Poor..But I agree Limerick should play a bit more ball..They look there best when keeping it on the floor in the second half against Monaghon and against Kilkenny..I did not see the away games so i cant comment. But i think that your going to get 5 or 6 bad games to view in the year..They cant all be end to end stuff ...That doesent happen anywhere not even in the much vaunted Premiership
I know what your saying and I don't expect premership standards,NOC knew that the tactics weren't working by half time when we could have been 2 or 3 down.He had plenty of time to change it. My point is the type football we are playing isn't going to keep the fans coming back. Lets be honest out of the 1,000 + fans there last night you will get very very few to say that they were enterained, I'd say more were bording on the bored side. Bad match, and face it, the paying customers won't keep turning up to watch a poor service ...
I agree, thought it was a terrible game. The football, if you could call it that, was dire. I've seen better U12 games. No tactics whatsoever, and as a result, no composure on the ball. Kick and hope is all I saw anyway. Good crowd, but it's well down on the last friday night game already, probably due to our patchy results. Thought Dublin should have won comfortably, certainly should have been at least 2 ahead at half time. Their number 8 missed two sitters, plus he had a couple well saved by Mooney as well. Mooney was probably our best performer on the night, which tells it's own story. Second half we improved, but we weren't great really, created no clear cut chances.
Everyone that I spoke to at the game was of the same opinion that our midfield, in particular our central midfield, is non-existant. You're right Gael about Sweeney, but even if Sweeney was there last night he wouldn't have made a huge difference, as apart from the front two and Paul Tobin, the rest haven't a clue how to pass the ball or pick a pass. Stephen O'Mahoney's distribution is getting worse by the game, while the midfield is very poor. Very little one-touch football, plus our running off the ball when attacking is again, non-existant. We're feeding off set-pieces, second balls and scraps really. Wolfe doesn't impress me, we need someone else alongside Finucane. We're going to finish mid-table playing this hoof game. We'll draw loads, win the odd home game and more often than not get beaten away. Plus we'll struggle to increase crowds. It's all well and good saying that we're rebuilding and that the team needs time to gel, but if there's no smoke there's no fire, and that kind of football does not bode well for the future.
Lads, I think you are being very harsh. I thought Dublin City were a typical Keely side - launching every ball into orbit. Their centre halves never once played a 10 yard to 30 yard pass to a midfielder or full back. It was all launched. And they were filthy as well. They were lucky to finish with 11 men - so many late tackles. Any news on Jamie Nolan?
Limerick were not great - they lacked a bit of steel in the centre - Molan is not Brendan Sweeney type player and Barrett is great getting forward but again needs a ball winner with him. Is Brendan Hughes injured?
I think Wolfe is a bit on the small side. He does read the game really well though and covered his full backs brilliantly at times, but he will not win in the air against the likes of Vaughan. Against long-ball teams like Dublin he will struggle because of is size.
I think a lot of the crowd that were in the shed will come back - the craic was good. There were a lot of rubber neckers on Good Friday - lets not panic yet.
The point was good to get, but to be honest I thought Limerick were brutal on the night. The back four didn't seem to have a clue what to do at times, the wolfe/finny partnership doesn't seem to be working at all, O'Mahony isn't playing at the standard Kerley got out of him two seasons ago, the midfield is poor at the best of times, especially Nolan on the wing, and well can't complain about Derek and Robbie up front to be honest, better then that useless ****e Can't Pass anyway. Thought Mooney had an average game, seemed a bit shaky at times, but compared to what we're used to from him it wasn't too bad. I honestly don't think Noel has a clue about tactics to be honest, if Plan A of throwing a few long balls down the wings don't work than we have no Plan B, that whole good coach/bad manager saying is becoming increasingly evident with each game it seems. And we still haven't recieved a decent explaination as to why Mick Aherne is dropped from the squad, when I think we sorely need him
The rest of your article is fair enough but I disagree about the Dublin players being dirty, for such an amout of dirty tackles I didnt see loads of free kicks!Quote:

Poor football. Poor tactics.
Quite simply I don't think Noel is using his squad correctly. O'Mahony is having a bad run of form. Perhaps introducing Aherne would freshen things up?
The main problem however is an on-pitch lack of direction. We have no leader on the pitch - we need a Sweeney or white figure to organise during the game.
Think the main problem Friday was a lack of leadership from the sideline and on the pitch. Its not that were a poor footballing side as such its just Dublin City were far better organised and we were then forced to stoop to their level due to our lack of direction and leadership....Still unbeaten at fortress Rathbane tho :) :ball:
The first thing a Dublin City player did was crease Steven O'Mahoney - and he was booked for it. Jamie Nolan was taken off and the referee gave a free to Dublin City. There were a lot of late tackles - one right in front of you in the second half. I have a lot of time for Dublin City but Keely's stamp is all over this side and it ain't pretty. Effective maybe - but not pretty.Quote:
