DUP Bigotry

Don't know which section this should go in..'Off Topic' or 'Other' Sports', but I'll post the ridiculous statement here anyway.... :mad:

DUP man says 'Irish' should be dropped from Lions title

A DUP councillor from Belfast has complained about the inclusion of the word 'Irish' in the name of the British and Irish Lions rugby team.
Nelson McCausland said he had written to the rugby authorities to express his unease at what he described as "political correctness run amok".

He said the team had for decades been known as the British Lions, but the name appeared to have changed in recent years to include the word 'Irish'.

He said the team was drawn from the British Isles and should be known only as the British Lions, despite the fact that 11 of this year's squad are Irishmen.

They're just so laughable at this stage. Who in their right mind would actually listen to these jokers? :rolleyes:

You know we are forever stuck with this term British Isles which sweeps us under the description of British. I believe the government in the 1950's once lodged a complaint with the UN to have it taken out of use. It is a term I find quite annoying and I wish we had done more to get it dropped.

Gotta say never bothered me, just a geographical term. Don't hear Fuji having a go at being part of Australasia...

I'd love to call the "Ulster" Unionist parties on their bluff.

They have serious idenity issues. They dont live in Britian but they're British. They claim to be "Ulster" Unionist but wont have the other counties of Ulster because that would ruin their little cosy consent set up.

Reminds me of Le Pen and the French footbal team

Sure give them the rest of the 3 counties of Ulster. They we'll have an election

Fuji is a mountain in Japan Macy. Nowhere near Australasia.... :D

Australasia is the name of a continent. It just happens to sound a bit like 'Australia'. Likewise - just because Mexico is in 'North America' or 'The Americas' doesn't mean people are claiming it's in the US......

The DUP are a joke, the only time they speak is to criticize or complain about someone/something. They are full of negatives and have no desire for moving forward/discussion. The sooner they get rid of the Big Ian(Reverend my ar$e), Sammy 'Streaker' Wilson and co. the better. They are as bitter as lemons. :rolleyes:

What sort of Irishman would play in a British representative side? :confused: Got to be a unionist, non. Remember reading in EMFA fanzine about the Aussies playing 'the Queen' in the eighties when the BRITISH Lions were out there. The person writing it was complaining about Brendan Mullin, saying 'we never expected you to sit down in protest. But FFS, we didn't expect you to join in singing it (the Queen), either.'

If only...but our yellow-spined rugby union would probably accede to a 'compromise' song such as bloody Irelands Call, which one man, Denis MacBride, forced the union to introduce because of his belief that he was British and would not stand to Amhrann na BhFiann as he found it insulting.

Sad that one little orange bast*rd can change a tradition dating back to when the anthem was actually written.

If they hate the word so much it's a wonder they still use the term Northern IRELAND to describe the six county’s.

He's a sad hypocritical b*stard. Denis McBride actually stood for the anthem in the first place before he got that pathetic dirge introduced.

The situation reminds me of a Real Madrid friend of mine who complained about a bit part player in Spain turning down an under-21 cap in the late nineties - the first one he ever heard of - because he'd rather play for 'his country.' He wasn't Basque or Catalan but a bloke called Nacho of Galicia who was then I think playing for Compostela. I saw him on a Sky Sports programme about Spanish football saying the same thing although he didn't mention anything about turning down a cap. Give him his dues, the man had, if not much talent, certainly principles.
