Another big game coming up drogheda probably the only team to give us a game last season and have started this season well it will be a tough game if Willie Boland can get back to back 3pts I think the board will start to think about offering him the job on a permanent basis.
Does he have a pro licence?
I'm not sure Willie would be interested in it fulltime. He is the head of the academy so would have to step aside at that.
I've seen very conflicting reports of the Pats game I read one that said we moved away from Martins style and didn't mess around with it at the back as much and another that said it was basically the exact same as if Martin was still there? Anyone at it able to tell me which one it was? If we have gotten a bit more direct I can see us getting something from this game.
Much much less of the passing across the back. Most of the time we got rid of it much earlier, either under no real pressure or at the first sign of pressure. A lot of lower, flatter balls towards Tosi to flick on/try and control, with Mulhall and Lynch trying to get to the breaking ball. Tosi had a good game doing this. That looks like a better ball to him than one dropping straight down.Quote:

All that said, I think that when teams like to attack and play farther up the pitch, we did ok against them even under Russell. I think the way we are set up against Drogheda (if they come to sit deep and let us play in front of them) will be more telling in terms of what the changes in tactics are.
From listening to AlanOB's coverage, it seemed like Limerick were a bit fortunate at Pats, insofar as Pats were lacklustre in front of goal/Clark played a blinder. So, wouldn't be lining Boland up yet (and still that issue of the pro license).
Limerick should have been 3 up at half time. Pats improved second half, wouldn't say Limerick rode their luck but worked extremely hard and deserved their breaks. Only one team deserved to win this game and that was Limerick, don't know what game this AlanOB was watching.Quote:

We definitely rode some luck. Pats hit the woodwork twice, missed a penalty and somehow failed to score from 2 yards two other times. On another night we could have lost the game 4-3.
JOF took his goal beautifully and should have had a second.
Same formation but Mulhall played well on the wing. We still played the ball out from the back but hoofed it when under pressure.

We had far more receivers in mulhall, tosi and ogbane on the field. In Russell times the only one was tosi. I think the point that Alan was making is that neither of our midfielders (Duggan or O'Connor), whether they are both holding or just one of them (as they have had to do many times), are not naturally suited to the role....They are more forward oriented (and that is no slight on them). I think it is a valid opinion tbh.

Shane is of course best used in a runner/box-to-box role. But, he is the player in the squad most capable of performing holding duties; certainly infinitely more capable than the likes of Hery, which is the point I was trying to make on that occasion.

Looking forward to the Drogheda game alright. Tough to know what the outcome will be. I expect Drogheda will press us harder than Pats did and they also won't leave no-one at home at the back. Will be up to us to break them down. Different assignment to last week.
I expect to see us give plenty of effort, not give away a goal and maybe to shade it.
