Problem for play-offs?

There was a bit in yesterday's Star about the World Cup play-offs in November - the IRFU have arranged two rugby friendlies on consecutive Saturdays the same week as the play-off games. Apparently, there's not really a problem with the pitch, but there could well be a problem with putting up and taking the temporary seating in between - so we could be looking at a capacity of 23,000 if we're in the play-offs. John Delaney has said something along the lines of "We'll cross that bridge when we get there"...which would be about four weeks in advance...doesn't sound like the most prepared route to be taking surely?

sure we could always move it across town to Croke Park :)

All Blacks game is scheduled for either the Saturday or sunday to allow for a potential home playoff the previous day.

I think they'll find a way to get the seats in and out if needs be.

We could also be drawn away on the weekend as well and we could also win the group or finish 3rd or even 4th.

Try and sneak in without the GAA noticing?! :p

How long does it take to get the seats in/out? The article was implying a couple of days.

Obviously, yeah - and hopefully the former will be the case! But it's quite possible that we'll finish second - have done for the past 16 years, 2002 excluded, so worrying about it later sounds a bit dodgy...

Is there a rugby match on a day away from both legs? If not, could we just agree to play the away leg on the awkward date?

Just checked that article again...rugby matches on the 12th and 19th (both Saturdays); play-offs on the 12th and 16th. Article mentions a "few days" to change the seating. Probably an overreaction, but still...

It does take a few days or even more. I remember Shels didn't have the time to put seats in between agreeing to goto Lansedown and the Depor game

Rugby is either 12th or 13th. That is the confirmed date for NZ. Loads of time to put seats in - 20 hours or so to take them out if we play on the 12th.

Good idea re swopping games but I can't imagine a country giving up home advantage in the return leg.

The "broken glass spreaders" probably won't even allow a vote on the opening of Croke Park not to mind open it up for a playoff.

no, but with some clever advance planning it could be done.

either that or convince the irfu to put the seats in before the NZ game and charge a few quid more for the tickets

but not the same atmosphere, you understand

and probably some 10 yr ticket hooray henrys to get the tics anyways.

It's probably quicker to get the seats out than in I suppose so that might work.
