High praise from David Moyes after yesterday's game:

MOYES DELIGHTED WITH KILBANE PERFORMANCE

Everton boss David Moyes hailed the impact made by Kevin Kilbane just days
after losing another influential midfielder in Thomas Gravesen.
If Moyes was looking for a player to fill the boots vacated by Gravesen in the
wake of his surprise #2.45million move to Real Madrid, then Kilbane picked up
the gauntlet.
Republic of Ireland international Kilbane overshadowed Middlesbrough's own
left-wing inspiration in Stewart Downing with a performance that was full of
drive, energy and quality crosses in yesterday's 1-1 Barclays Premiership draw
at the Riverside.
Kilbane may not have been the supplier of the ball that led to his side's
76th-minute equaliser, but either side of that he did enough to deservedly earn
the man-of-the-match award, and rightly take the plaudits from Moyes.
``Kevin was outstanding, and he has been for Everton ever since he left these
parts,'' said Moyes of the former Sunderland player.
``I thought he was as good as the boy Downing can be for Middlesbrough. He was
the same for us.
``He can play in the middle, and we toyed with that for this game, but we
decided not to do so. Now and again we might play him in there.
``He did go into the middle of the park late in the game, and even then he
burst through people. He just had a top game.''

He got man of the match as far as I know.
It's a great for him and for Ireland that he's playing well in that role.
I always liked his attitude but now he's maturing into a fine footballer too.

He appears to be playing well for Everton and has been playing well for Ireland. I hope it continues. With full disclosue, I was definitely and firmly in the anti-Kilbane camp so I am delighted to be proven wrong.

He played terribly for Ireland so many times...he seemed to sum up everything that was wrong with Mick McCarthy's management (not that it was all bad or anything). I could never understand why McCarthy seemed to waste Duff upfront and leave an ineffective Kilbane on the left wing out of some misguided sense of loyalty to him or something and, while not anti-Kilbane, I was certainly anti-Kilbane-on-the-left-wing-when-we've-one-of-the-world's-finest-left-wingers-sitting-upfront.

However, everyone was always in agreement that he gave his all and genuinely wanted to play for Ireland from the start. I'm glad that he's becoming a much better player, no other player deserves the success coming his way more than him. A leading force in a top 5 club, who would have thought it.

Must also admit to tearing my hair out in Japan at his performaces but he has really turned it around.

I reckon McCarthy persevered with him because his work rate covered up a lot for Ian Harte's deficiencies. Kilbane's defensive work is second to none as a winger.

At the time I can remember constantly hearing, and I think we all know the words to this one:

"Why doesn't he take Kilbane off, put Duff on the left and put Morrison up front?!?"
