Premiership Tickets

Don't suppose this will go anywhere but here goes -
I promised the young fellow I'd take him to a premiership match this year.
At the time he was a Man Utd fan and it wasn't a problem.
However he has jumped ship and become an Arsenal fan and tickets for Arsenal home matches are impossible to get.
I've had loads of suggestions about what to do to him for his treachery but to him a promise is a promise regardless of team loyalty.
If there's anyone out there who could help - it would be greatly appreciated.

Bit of lateral thinking needed here comrade, getting tickets for Highbury for a league match without visiting touts, or ticket agencies (touts with offices) is impossible. However you may fair better with FA Cup matches - there was a general sale for the Stoke match yesterday so this is one avenue. The other alternative is to get over to an Arsenal away game and get a ticket in the home end (I managed this at Man City this season and have got a ticket for the Bolton end on Saturday) so its not out of the question to get to a game.

BTW while I don't normally encourage team swapping, your son should be commended on his excellent choice of teams, even if his first efforts weren't up to much! ;)

Dont do a package anyway. Its a rip off.

What me and few others are doing is this.

Flying from Cork > Coventry €60 return

Aston Villa Vs Arsenal £stg25 (and u wonder why they have half empty grounds throughout England)

Accomadation £stg60 for 2 nights

Got the tickets on ticketmaster.co.uk. Works out quite cheap.

None of us are Villa or arsenal fans, but we reckon it'll be a half decent game anyways.

Tickets for Arsenal end away at Bolton on Saturday are on general sale now - check www.arsenal.com for details

FA cup game Vs Wolves is probably your best bet though unless your a member of the Arsenal.

I was there on Sunday and they actually checked both my ticket and my membership card for some reason - first time that's happened.

Obviously Highbury would be great but I had considered away matches and settled on Blackburn Rovers on March 19.
Anyone been to Ewood Park ? - what kinda crowd are they and what is the best option for travel & accomodation

I regularly travel to Premiership matches to see Arsenal. The away games (providing you get a ticket for the Arsenal end) are often far more enjoyable than the home ones. I was in Ewood Park the season before last (0-2 defeat) for the Blackburn game. As far as I recall, that match was one of the few occasions that season which a Premiership game went on general sale. If you cannot get tickets for the Arsenal end you should have no bother getting tickets for the other parts of the ground as Ewood seldom sells out. You might also try to get to Ewood early and hang around the Arsenal end outside the ground. There are often a few spare tickets floating around at face value.

Your options for travel to Blackburn are either get the fast ferry to Holyhead and drive to Blackburn which is a fairly straight run and only takes a couple of hours. Alternatively fly with Aer Lingus or Ryanair to Manchester and make your way from there.

If you fancy a drink before the game, the 'away' pub at Ewood is called The Fernhurst and is a very short walk from the ground. It should be full of Arsenal fans.

It has just been announced that the Blackburn game is live on Prem Plus with a 12:45 kick off. The date of the match remains unchanged.

How will the fact that the match is live on Prem Plus with a 12:45 kick off impact on the ticket situation - will it mean more tickets might be available ?

Except for the top games, live TV usually means reduced crowd, particularly away supporters and particularly if they have to travel. Pat O'B probably has a better handle on it from Arsenal point of view.

Yeah good chance of a general sale for this one if its been shifted to that time and is on TV, Arsenal's away support varies for no apparent reason, the vast majority of games will only go to season tickets or Travel club members however there is the odd one that will get a general sale, I think that Blackburn may well be one of them.

The fact that the match is live on Prem Plus should mean extra tickets being available. As it is an early kick off and is live on TV will mean that there is reduced demand especially from Arsenal supporters. Having said that there will still be a very sizeable travelling support. Keep a close eye on the ticket situation from the Arsenal website. You should also be able to buy tickets from the Blackburn Rovers website as I guess they will probably go on general sale. However it would be far more enjoyable for your young travelling companion to be among the Arsenal fans where he can shout as much as he likes.
