Away Days 2016

With the Season just about over and the silly Season just about to start, I thought I'd look ahead to 2016.

I don't get to as many away games as I used to, so generally pick a couple of games and make a weekend of it.

What away matches are you looking forward to and why?

Myself, I'm pencilling in Wexford Youths as have never been and Wexford is a decent spot for a couple days.

Besides that, it would be Finn Harps if they came back up and if not Limerick, as didn't get to MF this season. Enjoyed Limerick as a City, in the last Season when they were playing in Thomond.

Of course got to throw in Rovers but that is a given. Plus always hope for something different via a cup draw.

Anyway, the big countdown has already begun. It's gonna be a long Winter!!

I enjoyed going to the Markets Field, great buzz about the place. If they stay up, I'm looking forward to a return visit.

I hope Sligo have a competitive side next year as the Showgrounds is always a great away trip. Also looking forward to the "New Brandywell". I just hope the club/police can get to grips with the local scumbag element. Not nice driving back to Dundalk with broken windows in almost freezing temperatures.

I'm not a fan of grounds on the outskirts of towns, so Wexford Youths doesn't appeal to me much.

I'll miss Hunky Dorys for the local interest. It's pretty unique to go to a game is a full stadium, but Dundalk and Drogheda in Hunky Dorys comes close to being full when the drogs are doing well.

There is always the traditional LOI grounds of Inchicore and Dalymount to look forward to.

Jesus, I'm beginning to realise how empty the next four months will be. :(

The only good thing about the season being over is that the slate is now wiped clean. I can now forget about Pats horrific last third to the season and be all optimistic for next year. No idea what the shape of the squad will be like for next year too, so it's too early to be worried in that respect.

The Dublin games are a given. As are the games that are accessible in an hour. So I'll choose maybe two or three further away games and make do with that.
Not sure I'll head up to Dundalk next season. The away terrace is horrible and the portaloos are just not acceptable.
As a bloke, I can put up with them but the women who travel have big issues with them. Having said that, maybe I was just put into bad form by the hiding Dundalk gave Pats that Monday night.

Nah, it is sh!te.

Looking forward to visiting Tallaght, Turners Cross, Dalymount, Oriel, Showgrounds, Brandywell et all next season.


Now if only Harps could be promoted and I'd be able to watch a match in the grounds too..

we had first hand experience of Derry's scumbag element at the weekend! this must be new as a few of their gouriers got escorted from the ground and went behind the wall at section O and started firing cigarette lighters and stones at us! a lighter landed on the pitch. I had no choice but to go to security at the away end as my nephew was in our end and I was fearful for him if it hit him or hit any of the players on the pitch.it took our stewards ages to locate them as they were hiding! they were also stoned out of their brains in the jacks at half time!

where have they come from?

to go back on topic I havent being in Markets Field and I would like to visit it next season if Limerick stay up!

The 'red partizans', they call themselves. Absolute vermin. They enjoy posing with various flags, are supposed anti-fascist, but bitterly sectarian. Mostly take their lead from some similar Celtic grouping, so that tells you a lot about their level of intelligence. They were there briefly last season and have made the odd appearance this season. AFAIK, a lot of them can't get into the Brandywell since they decided to fight with our stewards.
I'd love to see our club actively do something about it, but we're a joke of an organisation, so I doubt much will happen.

Back O/T, looking forward to Wexford next year. Will stay the night for that one. As usual, Cork will be a weekend job too.
Would love to see Harps up, be great to have an away trip under an hour away. Guaranteed nine points too!
