Old School - Wally Of the Week

does anyone remember greavsies coloumn in match or shoot? he had a wally of the week letter for the punter with the worst letter

one of them went something like:

dear greavsie

if john barnes is so good how come he doesnt play for Brazil?

Greavsie replies:

You are Wally of the Week, wot a wally!

great stuff.....

I remember my brother having a letter to Greavsie printed, asking if Greavesie thought Derek Mountfield should be in the England squad, he was only ten in his defence..

In fairness Match was great for results/stats from the lower divisions and I remember a feature they done called Club Call where every week they gave all the facts of one of the 92 football league teams.

I have every Shoot and Match from late �86 to �97 in the Attic at home in Donegal.

Remeber getting the Shoot and Match hardback annuals at Christmas from my aunts. They were a great gift.
Trying to buy a gift for my nephew now is a nightmare!

any one remember 90 minutes ? seemed to be aimed at older boys than me ( i was 10 at the time) but it was quality and had a predictions league in it for all the staff. used to get both match and shoot but then dropped match when it became crap. :)

90 minutes was okay - certainly aimed at an older market than Shoot or Match. Tried to be like a fanzine, but just wasn't good enough - not funny enough to compare to club fanzines, and not sandal and socks enough to compete with wsc.

Remember it well... didnt 90 Minutes merge with Shoot? cos i remmber Shoot becoming Shoot incorporating 90 Minutes or something like that... Remember Longford Town once getting a mention in 90 minutes when they interviewed Dave Savage and they had a one to watch feature on him.... Oh and interesting fact about 90 Minutes, not 100% sure but they were the magazine that interviewed the Spice Girls for their Christmas issue, they showed him a pic of Beckham and she said yeah he's cute or something along those lines... rest is history. blame them!
