I suppose the main factor is the cost to the individual fan to be in something like a trust.
What comeback to they have?
What is required of them?
What rights would they have?
The numbers doing it in the beginning would most likely be very small and there is still a lot of mistrust out there between people and the club. If for example people were to give a few quid a month to a trust they would need to know their money isn't just going down a black hole.
The policy of the club has never been to be an open shop kind of place and usual been a more cloak and dagger kind of a thing so getting the people's trust would be tough.
Tbh I am thinking more see what initial interest there would be in even setting one up and then deal with the questions you have above. Id be hoping people more suited to it than me would be setting it up and I would just be willing to help out.
Couldn't hurt if we could get enough people together to meet up and have a discussion about setting one up and come to an agreement on some of the questions asked.
I just think if anyone is ever gonna try do it now is the time.
I think its a great idea.i mentioned the idea on a previous thread.the lads involved with foras in cork city would be the guys to give some advice.if everything was open and transparent i am sure you would get people to sign up.maybe call a meeting of all interested parties in the mid west region and see if pat o sullivan would be willing to listen to offers of help?
Foras/Cork City have a monthly fee of 10 euro or 120 euro a year.this sounds like a reasonable fee and wouldnt break the bank for most people.if you could get 2000 signatures of interest for such a scheme it would raise 240,000 euro for the year.the more names the better.would pat o sullivan be interested in such a scheme?
That would be a very reasonable price in fairness.
2,000 people to commit to a trust for a club that get less than half of that attending home games.
:ball::cool:;)
Just an update on this seeing as its a good news day.
At the moment the idea of a trust is being pushed from within the club by the current chairman of the OSC (who gave the impression to their agm last week he knew very little about a trust, the rest of his committee knew the sum total of **** all) and an advisory board member.
Im told they are being ably guided by our former ceo.
Personally i think the forming of a trust should be a bit more transparent to engender a bit of, well, trust. But shur we'll see how they go. :ball:
Just to clarify saying nothin about the OSC chairman there he seems like a decent bloke anytime iv seen him but if i was in his shoes id be wondering why i was left out of the loop so long.
All rubbish anyway, just random tuesday night thoughts, anyone know where we're playing next year??
So there is forward movement (of a sort) on a trust then?
Apparently so.
Well a trust's money doesn't necessarily need to go anymore. You could just set it up as a fund for a contingency or whatever other reason and just leave it there if it's not required for anything. Could be useful to gauge the kind of numbers you'd get if there ever was a need to bail out/buy out the club.
Surely a trust should be pushed from the outside with a bit of help from the club. Not pushed from within the club with help from outside. A trust would surely need to be a separate entity from the club in the beginning?
Anybody know the ins and outs of it though? Does there have to be a minimum number of participants before a trust gets the go ahead? And if I sign up to a tenner a month or whatever, and only 100 others do the same, is that €1000 just gona be used to buy Shane Duggan's gold plated toilet paper?
It can be whatever you want it to be. You can have it solely to build a fund to take over. You can decide to start paying bills now. You can decide (as Pats do) to have a fund there to pay for one off projects.
You can have 5 members or 500 but obviously the more money you have coming in, the more power you'll have
All up to those involved though as there's no hard and fast rules
People here in cuckoo land, limerick up untill 2 weeks ago had sold just 50 season tickets and people here looking to set up a trust, lot of mistakes by o'sullivan who means well but im sure his patience must be wearing thin at this stage.
It has to start somewhere, and 50 would be more than enough to get one up and running.
