The Minister for Sport, John O'Donoghue, has warned the FAI that they could lose funding if they do not comply with the government's requests to implement the recommendations of the Genesis Report.

Speaking on RTÉ's This Week programme, the Minister said: "There is a feeling that the performance and the professionalism of the international side is not being reflected in the inner workings of the FAI itself and there is a desire that this would be resolved."

He went on to say that "the government is, to a large degree, funding the FAI". He reminded the association that, although he couldn't force them to do anything, "the sports council withheld €300,000 which the FAI required in order to proceed with plans under Genesis because the FAI had made no progress so far".

Earlier in the week the FAI stated that it did not want to advertise for the posts of replacement chief executive and financial controller.

Mr O'Donoghue said: "The Genesis report . suggested that the way forward was for the FAI to appoint a chief executive and also to appoint four directors including a financial controller, a director of performance, a football operations director and a communications director. Unfortunately in the interim very little of the Genesis report was implemented."

The Minister finished the interview by saying: "It's time for the FAI to grow up."

Public pressure is crucial now ....... The FAI have to make a decision now.

Infact .... the Genesis report is a template to improve ... fair enough, but the FAI should be seen to be doing more that this .... not dragging their heels.

Considering the workload and timescale that the FAI have to implement half of this, getting rid of Rooney was an unbelievable.

Some of the guys behind the green door need a good kick in the áss, all the fcuking around that are at, we are meant to put up with it.

With Rooney and Declan O Luanaigh now gone from the FAI Board of Management and with the Minister's comments fresh in the minds, it is an ideal time for fan pressure to be applied.

The FAI Board of Control is due to meet Monday night, so what about a simple message to info@fai.ie urging that the remainder of Board of Management resign 'en bloc' and the Irish Sports Council be invited to oversee (a) the full implemenation of the Genesis report and (b) the day to day administration of the FAI and its finances until (a) is completed.
