Do City Really need a new ground?

I was just reading last nights echo and it qoutes Mr. Michael O'Leary as saying that he would like city to have ..."their own place rather than being tenants ast Turners Cross..". I suppose in one sense it would be nice to have our own place where we wouldnt be have to be consulting the demi-gods of the munster league. But I dont see that the arrangement that we have at the moment is inhibiting the club. I rather see it as extremely beneficial. The stadium is really taking shape and with the upcoming introduction of floodlights it will surely be a stadium to match and even surpass the facilities at Tolka Park. Its obvious that City are anchor tenants and I cant see any reason to move as citys heart really does now lie in Turners Cross in my own humble opinion.To move the team to a new venue would probably undo a bit of the fanbase they have built up in recent years. I know the prospect of a move even if it did happen wouldnt take place for at least 3-4 years at best but I thought it was a question worth pondering. I myself am happy with Citys arrangement at the Cross and I think that any move would have to be in the clubs best interests rather than just playing on the sentimental aspiration of "having our own place".At least Micheal realises that a move outside the centre of the city would not be in the clubs best interests.Buy back Flower Lodge and I might be convinced!!

no need. buy the cross if they can, but i doubt the MFA will sell.

I think the cross is fine, we shouldn't move anywhere, .... but the club could try and tighten up on City being the sole tenants, and some sort of a plan and time scale should be given to the MSL to develope the ground more than it is being done right now, The cross is taking shape, but if the club were to own the ground, a bar, chipper and a gym in the ground would be great sources of revenue, that would be the way to go. A gym because they have the staff for it and if they need to get a player a job then it is there, and it is a facility that the players could use for free. But if they could buy the ground it would be great without that stuff, but any which way it is ... DONT MOVE FROM THE CROSS.

the way i see it is that the experiment with bishopstown was a disaster,

personnally i didnt go to the games out there and neither many of my friends coz i thought it was wrong to move from the cross,

when we were in b'town we wanted back at the cross,

now were back it seems we still want to move

i want to stay at the cross,with the floodlites coming soon the thought of a friday nite match against rvrs,shels, or pats looks good,

it would also bring the cameras down more often

I think that this is getting built up a bit too far. Id say that the chairman was just expressing a desire rather than unvailing a new plan. He is hardly going to say that he 'would like City to be renting a ground forever' now is he?

To be honest Turners X is more than adequate for CCFC in their current form. It could do with the following though

Floodlights - Being installed in 3 weeks

Gym, Sauana & Bar - Bring in revenue

Proper facilities -New toilets and shop

New Public Address System- U can't hear a thing with the current one.

Attendence Figures - so proper finacial decisons can be budgeted on fairly accurate crowd attendance figures!

I think the gradual development of the cross has been great. Nothing flashy but small improvements every year has IMO been the best way forward.

For 500k in the next couple of seasons i'm sure they can get floodlights, extra seast at the st annes end, a roof over the st. annes end & improved toilets & shops etc....

IMO if Bishopstown had been attempted in the last couple of years it probably would have succeeded with the FAI & government grants available now. At bar licence is a huge money spinner for clubs but probably would have to be close to the city.

The club shop is fine.

I think that there should be a shop at all sides of the ground. If you are up at the St Annes End, by the time you walk around the pitch, Q for 20 minutes, get your drink and taytos the match has started again! Makes more sense to have a shop down the other end as well!!

Wasn't there a little cabin with a couple of young lads selling Tayto between the Donie Ford and the St Annes at the Derry City game?

The cross is quite possibly one of the best grounds in Ireland and with the improvements taking place I'm sure other clubs are jealous. I mean look how it has changed in the last 3 years

looks we are all in agreement with this one. we should stay at the cross but as ye all mentioned above it would be no harm to get a decent shop.

however a pub licence and a gym would be great though.

still though when one remembers the state of the cross 4 years agoago the changes since have been immense and I though we have one of the best grounds in the national league

I wouldnt rate the Cross near the top. The best is clearly at this stage Flancare Park and if they cover it it will be better still.

Rovers will soon have a nine place.

Then tolka only after that comes the Cross and Dalymount. If we could cover the St. Annes we'd would be doing very well. There is alot of space if CCFC and MFA wanted they could throw up some kinda Tempory structure that would act as a pub inside the ground on match days.

What I consider to be most pleasing is the standard of ground that will be in the 10 (hopeful) team premier.

don't agree. tolka is a kip. sure it's got seats, but it's in terrible condition.

Tolka is a kip? Why? Sure the roofs are a bit dated, but other then that it is one of the best in the league. Dream Team have played there so it has to be one of the best! ;)

a nice new stadium in the middle of the new docklands development would be brilliant. that wont be ready for a few years we could All save up our pocket money towards it. but seriously it would be a good location for a ground.....................
