It might be cheesy in the extreme but this mght be the most effective for media attention of them all.
Have a minute's silence at the start of the second half of the Croatia game(just in case there actually is one at the start of the game) for the death of Irish soccer.
A good way of making it easier for people to cop it's going on and to get it noticed would be if everyone, including non-smokers like myself, brought lighters with them and lit them at kickoff in the second half.
Any comments?
I'd say that would be very very difficult to pull off, most people wouldn't notice it was going on even with the lighters.
I know but when you're procrastinating over an assignment due Monday all sorts of mad ideas enter your head in order to avoid thinking about it.
Id say this will be about as successful as cheering the Faroes left-back.
nothing will ever work unless there is an active irish supporters group. Like the english have theirs and once someone comes up with a good idea then they get all organised and carry the thing out.
Like giving out flyers at the gate or in our case red cards with instructions " to lift them at the start of the game " printed on the back. Until someone starts doing that talk about booing the left back and minute silence just wont work.
My red card idea thing seemed to get a bit of attention...so I reckon that might work...We will have to organise something proper closer to the match......with alot of people behind it......no point in just a few lads holding up a couple of cards and looking like crazy people. Anyone here work in a printing factory or can get access to red paper...it could be really effective with a little organisation. only needs ten/twenty people to hand out cards and someone with access to the paper and print..Great idea with the instructions on the back..ie.. at the start of the match hold this up and boo if you don't think Fai lads aren't doing a good enough job....or something to that effect
So the question is who is gonna get involved? If we have over 20 people interested we should work something out if not we should just sit back and let these fools make a mockery of us and Irish soccer...........

Why wasnt this idea organised for the Faroes game? At least we could have vented our anger at Rooney and the rest of the FAI muppets then. I wouldnt want to be involved in any red card scheme. That would look like we are supporting Rooney. He already helped the FAI muppets "make a mockery of us and Irish soccer" by demanding a fat-cat salary and raising the price of tickets. None of them (Rooney included) care about Irish football.Quote:

Actually TheJamaicanP.M you make a good point....There are some fans who are not so taken with Mr Rooney and I think the jury is still out on that one and will remain out as he is gone as of today. This protest will be highlighting the incompetancy of the FAI and not specifically how they treated Rooney. The Rooney situation is a small part of a bigger problem the straw that broke the camels back so to speak. Personally I think he was treated badly and he was doing a good job. However I don't think there has ever been a protest against the FAI and they damn well need to know the views of the Irish fans who pay their ridiculous wages. As for having the protest at the Faroes game...I don't think that would have been a good idea as it was an important match and all attention had to be put on winning it. I don't think I would cause hassle or boo at a competitive match. That said we can make this as big or as small as we want it. We can alert the TV stations covering the game...We could go on 'Off the Ball' on Newstalk...They are always up for this kind of thing.....Thousands of pieces of red paper could be produced for very little money. All you would need is about 20 people handing them out at the start of the match at all of the gates.....with particular emphasis on the north terrace which I reckon will react well to the protest. So who is gonna be involved?
Also TheJamaicanP.M. we all have to make an effort to make Irish football and the National team work and that means sometimes goin against what you believe for the good of the team...so you could protest against The Fai and Fran Rooney..I myself find myself cheering for Roy Keane and a couple of years ago I sure as hell thought that would never happen....

Onenilgameover, in that case you can count me in. I agree that the FAI is incompetant and deserves a wake-up call. Its important that the protest makes a big impression on the media and the general public.
On a separate note, I think it is important that we do not make a romantic figure of Roy Keane. While Keane made it his business to highlight the deficiencies within Merrion Square, Keane has also made mistakes with regard to his international career. What annoyed me was that Rooney seems to be getting lots of sympathy while an honest man like Mick McCarthy took more that his fair share of abuse for the mistakes of the FAI. McCarthy is the only scapegoat of the FAI's who I genuinely feel for.
Therefore, any protest should focue not on the recent past, but on the wrongs of the FAI over the past 15 years, and indeed since its inception. My own personal belief is that football in this country will only improve to its full potential when there is a complete overhaul of the current FAI organisation.
I don't get it, what has changed? Nothing as far as I can see, the FAI are doing what they have always done, shafting one another and generaly mis-managing Irish soccer. Rooney wasn't the messiah by any means, just another w*anker on an inflated salary who spent more time worrying about his perks than anything else.Quote:

An active supporters group is also needed. I think boycotting games is necessary, getting media attention is easy in Ireland just look at Alan Hunter. Can the FAI be shamed and forced to chnage, very very difficult.
The problem is the FAI are a running gag and nobody expects this to change, it will take grass roots action from people who care about football.

Seriously,if anything ever like this did come out of this site,would be the greatest achievement to get real fan reps.into the echelons of the FAI ......Rather than some of the fanciful notions that appear on here!
