Flynny's Future

What is JOF's future as a player? He is a young guy, and 18 months after his injury he is not back to his form. Even accounting for the possibility that he came back too soon, that is too long to be out.
What will it take? A year resting?
My thoughts are, if we keep such an important role for the guy, he should only get his game by coming off the bench with 15 or 20 minutes left. That way he can show his magic against tired defenders. He is just not doing the business over a full game.
And that is assuming that he is worth his wages for a subs role. It would be a difficult decision, and I am a HUGE fan of the guy, but maybe the best for him and the club would be to sell or lend him to a Div 1 club where he will enjoy his football and open a space and a salary for us to buy another quality striker.

Dunno what wrong with him but he living off his reputation.

He doesn't make the runs he used to, doesn't have the same touch & certainly not the same confidence in front of goal.

I noticed on saturday he changed his boots at halftime like a golfer changing putter when things not going well.

Flynny hasn't been at his best for a long time now for city.I think loaning him to a div 1 side is a bit extreme though because even at 75% fit,Flynny is better than most div 1 strikers.

The most worrrying thing for me is the lightening pace that was Flynny's best attribute hasn't come back.How often have we seen him tear past defenders and leave them for dead lately.Maybe he'll never be as good as he was. :(

probably didnt like the shade of blue he wore for the first half and tried a gold for the second half

This is terrible. There's nothing worse than a fallen, or falling as is the case, hero. Maybe he was just too good to be true? :(
At least we saw the best of him...The pace is gone, he looks like he's gonna break down when he misses and he doesn't seem to have the strength to play out a game at the top level anymore.

He still has flashes of genius-the second goal against Waaaherfur a fewq weeks back, pure class. He did 'the eyes' on Henderson, you can see it on the club site. That was a superb goal.

Sadly, though, i think he'll never be quite the same again...

Its only natural that a pro footballer as young as Flynny is worried that by really opening up his pace, that he could re-injure himself. He is obviously worried about his livelihood.

IMO, I reckon Dolan should start him on the bench, and spring him for the last 15-20 mins. That way, he gets a good run, and wont (shouldnt anyway) do himself any real damage.

To say get rid of him, even on loan, is silly talk, but most certainly some different approach is needed to get him back to his best.

While he was obviously off form on Saturday, and shouldn't have gotten ninety minutes, i thought it was his best game for us since before his injury.

When he got the ball to feet he played very well, he showed great strength at times and when under pressure and tackles had quick feet.

Unfortunately what we want from him is goals and his speed was always his greatest asset in that regard. Once he's more confident on his feet (wehich will grow with every game he comes through) the sharpness and speed will hopefully return. At the mo' though he's underperforming....

we need confidence and speed from Flynny to score goals, but we may have to accept a spell without goals before the confidence and speed return

It took Colin T while to get back to his old self after his knee injury but like most of ye I think he needs a bit of rest.
It would be good not to have a situation where a striker not performing his best can still walk into the team if he is fit.
I would like to know the story though. Has he recovered from this stomach muscle problem, is it fatigue, is there something else.
One of my biggest problems with Dolan is the lack of honest information coming from the camp before matches.

Injured, not quite fit or 100% fit, he should be dropped at this stage, he just isnt doing it.His last goal was 5 games ago now. His second last for us was 13 games back against Malmo! Id rather see Doyle go up front (although he looked nackered against the Shams) with George or Colin T on the right. I think that Dolye showed that he's a class striker and always does well for the Ireland u21s there.
