“To suggest that Kerr was in battling good form was merely to accentuate the positive and when a journalist, recently returned from the Olympic Games in Greece, addressed a question, the manager could not resist a typical wind-up.
“Tell us how was the beach volleyball?” he asked rhetorically.
The journalist, a little taken aback it must be said, responded manfully: “Beach volleyball is a worthy sport.”
But he was outgunned as Kerr thrust home a match-winner - “I’m sure it is, if you like thongs.”
With a laugh and a wave he was on his feet and heading out the door with his trademark farewell - “I’ll see youse, right?”
I was left with the thought. Pressure? What pressure?”
