for some reason thought we were playin drogs but nice to meet dundalk for the first time since the end of the 08 season.. think the last time we met was in the league under vinny perth when we won away from home!
Very excited for this game it maybe only the EA Sports Cup but hey we didnt say that when we won it did we! CMON DE TOWN.
an interesting stat is in the season we last got promoted in 99-00 we played dundalk in the league cup that season.. wonder could this be a good omen? We beat them too in Oriel a Keith O'Connor winner after game went to extratime! That was the last time the two sides met in the league cup!
Nice stat :)
Game is on tuesday april 10th
8pm KO
What type of squad are we putting out? We're 11/10 while Dundalk are 21/10.
Expected to rest first teamers but line up should be still strong and I'd happily take that 11/10 Town to win 2-0
Not in a million years would I be backing us at 11/10 tonight, especially with the likelihood we'll be resting a few.
Why not? Sure Dundalk are nothing special.
Bored so did a bit of surfing and found this on our opponents sites in case anyone is interested and bored like me :) Some promising stats in it our record seems fairly good against Dundalk - http://www.dundalkfc.com/ea-sports-c...t-to-win-burns
Longford 1 - 2 Dundalk
(Skelly) (Shanahan x2)
Great game of football really enjoyed it. Started off like a house on fire, Mick lee bombed in a long throw and it fell to Sean Skelly edge of the box who put it away in fantastic fashion. We dominated the game early doors but just didn't take any of the numerous attempts we made.
We made the suicidal mistake of letting a Premier Division team back into the match and we paid dearly. We were very poor 2nd half and both goals especially the 2nd were down to awful defending but credit where it's due for the last 10-20 minutes we gave it absoutely everything and I honestly don't know how we didn't score.
Mark Salmon was epic when he came on his composure on the edge of the box when looking to slide through a pass is 2nd to none.
Bad news is Des Hope had to go off on a stretcher and did not appear into the stand afterwards which is not a good sign, he was down for a very long time and it looked quite serious so big blow for us as he has been fantastic this season while we already have injuries in that area.
Any word on Flood coming back? Actually on Hope too?
Hope has a nasty gash on his knee.
That can be a very serious injury hopefully it heels fast but that can be a right pr1ck of a place to get a cut as for Flood he has a broken foot as far as I know so I wouldnt expect him back soon, could really do with him hes a great player.
hope was seen in the tunnel when the full time whistle went. disappointed with the result.. gary cronin was very disappointing for us. hes not the player he was last season and seems to have lost some pace too. but we kept our record of A scoring in every game and B scoring first in every game so far this season.. in hindsight Dundalk did well to get back into it as we were strong for the first quarter of the game and let Dundalk back into it.
btw did anyone notice the drunk dundalk fans? they were behind the goals in the first half got their drink confiscated by security and went to the stand second half. near the end one dundalk fan decides for the laugh to tumble down a few seats and low and behold a few decide to go down with them! I had a great view of it priceless!!:D
