I presume it's an Irish man living in Nantes. However, expect a warm welcome when you go to Nantes as they like the Irish there. While not techinically in the Brittany region, Nantes is the spiritual capital of Brittany, a an area rich in Celtic heritage and pride. For example, you'll be amazed at the similarity of the traditional music you'll come across there. They look on Ireland as the Celtic Mothership. If you want to stay on their good side, don't refer to them as French!
To really make yourselves at home, erect a brittany flag along with the City ones as a sign of solidarity with our culturally oppressed Celtic cousins!
I spoke to an NAC Breda fan once who brought an Irish flag to games just because he liked the way it looked. He'd emblazoned the words "Our Day Will Come" on the flag, a reference to a line in the club's anthem. He was unaware of any other connotations.
The scary thing was, he very nearly brought it to an Intertoto Cup game against a Northern Irish team, but fortunately the Nordies got knocked out before they could meet NAC.
A few Breda fans came over to see a couple of Pats game before. They recognised us from www.fridayclub.co.uk and enjoyed their trips to Richmond...
Some fans groups have the tricolour as their thing...
The nantes thing could be from when the played Sligo in the inter toto cup :)
