The Republic of Ireland Under-19s will play their first game of the season this afternoon (Tuesday) when they face Serbia at the Stara Pazova in the first game of this week's double-header friendly (4.30pm).
Ireland Head Coach Paul Doolin has only recently finished with last season's squad which reached the semi-finals of the European Championship in July.
Eight members of the 18-man squad which played at the finals in Romania are underage again for the upcoming qualification campaign.
Today's game, followed by another meeting between the nations on Thursday, will serve as preparation for the first phase of UEFA qualifiers taking place in Bulgraia from 6-11 October. Doolin's side will vie in Group 2 with Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and hosts Bulgaria for the two qualifying berths into the elite stage.
The Irish boss will use these two matches to assess his options outside of the eight players from last season for those qualifiers.
