Crazy Prices!

I was looking at a digital SLR camera on the Internet and the price difference between the US and Ireland is astonishing!
USD$749 on American website.
USD$1,560 on Irish website (in a sale)
USD$1,280 on UK website

I know, it's crazy. I spent a whole year researching my IXUS 400 - not an SLR I know, but fine for me thanks - and of course they realeased the 500 days later. :)

Did you try Jessops? They seem like a good bunch.

The UK price quoted above is from Jessops.
I'll hold fire for a bit though because I'm moving back to England and I found that it's easier to haggle with people in camera shops which don't belong to a national chain. Jessops were only cheaper if you bought 2 or 3 items together. I already have EOS lenses so I don't want a package. Just the body.
What's the deal with buying something like this from the US with regard to VAT and Duty etc.?
