now that our winters are getting worse, should Limerick jumior soccer be played in the summer instead of the winter from March to October just like the LOI games
now that our winters are getting worse, should Limerick jumior soccer be played in the summer instead of the winter from March to October just like the LOI games
Well it shouldn't be played tomorrow morning anyway as even the dogs in the street know the pitches will be unplayable. Its all well and good for the LDMC to say matches are sill going ahead, they are not the ones who have to trapse around he county getting to matches that will not be played anyway. ****ing farce.
Agreed - the LDMC don't for anything other than results. Players, managers, coaches, supporters, referees etc will all be taking their lives in their hands tomorrow, if someone loses their life, what will the LDMC say then! All matches should be off, full stop!
Just an idea...................but what about if each LDMC member was assigned a junior game to attend each Sunday, and be placed on the fixture list (that appears on the Limericksoccer.com and Limerick Leader) to attend same..............
I bet you then you'd see all games being called off early on a Saturday (as they would fear for their OWN safety).
Back on topic............
I think the Junior season should run from 01st March to mid November with a 2 &1/2 week break in between (the 2 & 1/2 week break would be the last week in July till the Wednesday after the bank holiday in the first week in August), this would allow players, fans, management, officialls and their families to still go on holidays (during the 2 & 1/2 week break) without teams being depleted that much.
It would mean playing most of the season on decent playing surfaces, with plenty of light for evening games, even allowing teams to sometimes play 2 games a week ensuring the season doesn't drag on............it will also mean less games being called off...........
It also means everyone wont have the hassel of fixtures or training during the Xmas period, they also wont have the fear of travelling in terrible conditions, they can also Xmas shop in peace (without worrying about evening training sessions Xmas week), they can also enjoy the Xmas period without having to worry about what they eat or drink (incase they have a big game coming up), and back to pre-season training then in mid-January
I know everyone may not agree with the above, but I can't see why the majority wouldn't agree with it...............
that is exactly my point and Ive said it on other threads, its easy call that a match is on from the comfort of a nice warm room while everyone else takes a risk to either get to a match or get injured while playing a match on a pitch that is so hard its like cut glass
if any of the ldmc are reading this do the decent thing, the clubs you represent are not happy traveling roads that are in traitorous conditions or playing a game 1 week before xmas but you should have called it to-day by using a bit of logic and doing what the rest of use are doing AND CHECK THE BLOODY WEATHER FORECAST
the Limerick desmond League have called off all games to-morrow

Fai junior game between st michaels v Newcastle west still going ahead tomorrow..I think it's a joke when all matches in the league are off over this weather and fai games still on..very dangerous travelling from ncw to tipp town on those icy snowy roads..
good points by everyone,...this weekends farce has been created by one person and no one stands up to him, clubs make noise but nothing comes of it because this guy does as he pleases ,its not the 1st time a week of fixtures like this w,ends has occurred when everyone knows this is no chance of games taking place but our fixtures junta sees fit to leave them stand pending referees inspection....joke.it can change if clubs stand up for themselves come AGM time and vote accordingly ,yee get the chance every year people but will yee use it.......hmm?
Just had a look at the fixtures a lot of teams travelling long distances surely carew v kilmallock isent going to be on. Limericks live 95 are warning people all day to stay off country roads.
Also mike aherne said it on the sports bulletin how ridiculous it is taking people away from their work and families christmas week knowing the games arent going to be played.
Just heard pike match is off tomorrow common sense prevails somewhere.
then maybe after the new year the chairman from each club should meet and set up a committee so that the teams can make decisions in emergency situations like this, it would be worth at least talking about it in the future, this should not be allowed to happen that teams ARE FORCED to travel in these DANGEROUS weather conditions
A few weeks back when we had the last bad spell of weather the SFAI called off all of the Saturdays schoolboy national cup games the previous Thursday night, how in gods name can the michaels v ncw game be still on, one wonders what the powers that be have between their ears, not a lot obviously
Just found out there our match against st michaels is off..Bloody joke
the temperature in Limerick @ 12 noon is minus 0 degrees and the wind chill is minus 3.5
Travelled all the way out fully knowing it would be off and hey presto, it was. Told the players not to travel as it was pointless and wasn't sure what the roads would be like. Ref then tells me he needs to see the players. Looking at a walkover being possibly awarded against us for using common sense. Isn't football great
Thats a joke and it not the first time its happened. With the price of petrol and getting off work its costly to play junior soccer for some people, not to mention staying in of a saturday night.
You can know 99% of the time if a match will go ahead or not the day before with a look at the field and the forecast. The players/clubs need more power to decide and make mutual agreements with the other clubs the day before the fixture as wether to call it off. It would save an awful lot of hassle.
Heard prospect travelled to croom waited half an hour for the ref to arrive got out of his car called off the match collected his money and away he went.
we got a phone call form croom @ 1oclock to say that the pitch was not playable, they phoned the fixture secretary and then we phoned the fixture secretary and none of us could get through, his phone was off so we made a decision for safety reasons that we were not going to allow our players to travel out so 3 of the committe went out and met the croom manager and committee who told their players not to travel also, both teams agreed that someone from both clubs should be there when the ref arrives
I have to say fair play to the ref he used a bit of common sense and said that he knew when he was coming into croom that the match would not be played because of the conditions of the road.
Roadend i hope the ref at your game uses the same common sense as well
just for the record did anyone hear on 95fm @ 1.15 that all game were off except the wembley vs Lisnagry game, how come clubs were not told and the radio was
We had a team travel into us @1.30,pitch still frozen over we all had to wait for the ref and hey presto match off,€21 thanks lads.
the other team said they heard all matches were off but nothing official.
Our team had lads travel in from the country and some got off work, there is going to be more bad weather in the new year and if this farce continues by the power tripper in the ldmc we had better sort it out because players and clubs are being put to a lot of needless hassle and expense which they can`t afford these days.
At the a.g.m. of the ldmc make sure hes sent packing because his arrogance is upsetting everyone.
Aisling tried to call off their league match against last Saturday week as the pitch was frozen solid. Were told as it was too late to call off the game as it was 4.30 and now it was down to ref. Ref was dragged up from Cork as he was attending the LOI Ref Christmas party. Aisling player crashes on way to game. Game called off pitch frozen. No ****
Knockainy look to switch last Sundays MJC game to Aisling pitch, Aisling pitch inspection at 3 on Saturday, not a hope of it going ahead. MJ Councel (not the ldmc) say match is down to pitch inspection by ref on the day. Fixture switched back to Knockainey? only to get the call at 12 on the Sunday, when players are after travelling from Cork, Dublin and Portlaoise that the game is off???? Who called the game off? was there a pitch inspection as decided by MJC? The reason given was it was snowing in Knockainey - therefore the pitch is not playable. Was that not the same bloody arguement put forward on the Saturday???
Thats 3 weeks in a row and you wonder why players get ****ed off with Junior football.
Have some respect for people and players
