2011 Budgets

UCD confirm they're letting their backroom staff go and playing budget to be cut too (today's Irish Times)

Fingal's problems have already been highlighted (although they havent' announced anything, they've just said they' looking into it)

Bohs problems are there for all to see. Currently trying to offload as many contracted players as possible.

Pats have released 3 of the backroom staff (A team manager, A team coach, head scout/coach) and the playing budget is likely to be cut from last year (unless either Bohs or Fingal fail to get a Euro licnse)

Dundalk's Ina Foster spoke last week about his budget being cut. He said he couldn't affford 16 players.

I'd imagine that if the FAI do come out and say there'll be no relegation that the likes of Bray and Galway will have tiny budgets too. Why risk anything?

Likewise in the first some clubs might think they're autmoatic for promotion so could see their budgets reduced.

Any other news?

With other clubs cutting back, surely there has never been a better time to push the boat out a bit.

As far as im aware we are financially secure for next season since we clinched European Football.
The Cup Final is an added bonus like last season but Europe was the target.

Yeah, all non-scholarship players told they can look for new clubs (which basically means we haven't offered them the same contract for next year, which means we won't get any transfer fee). I'd imagine some will sign back with us on reduced contracts though. Bit of a kicker though.

Ultimately, it looks like cut-backs across the league, but given each club can only put 11 on the pitch, so there'll probably be less movement than you might think. The league will probably lose another fair few players to England though (like McAllister).

Edit - by the way, where's that bit in the Times? Had a quick look there and didn't see it, though I imagine it's a token comment at best given it's LoI.

Edit edit - it's in the Indo, not the Times. Says we'll be looking for transfer fees for players, but if we didn't offer similar contracts to this season (which I can't imagine we did), then I think we get nowt.

And it's been said here before, but it does make you query the FAI's logic behind adding extra underage requirements. Just seems like the right idea at the wrong time for all.

Don't think we are quite that bad although budget will be down on last year. Id say at worst it will be €7k a week at at best it will be closer to €8k. More than enough to get good young players into the club.

With Bohs and Fingals (alleged) problems it will give clubs like Dundalk and Pats a chance to reduce their budgets and still remain relatively competitive.

On the players going to England, I'm not sure how many of them are good enough. The rumours I've herd are that Reading are after Powell and keegan from Bohs. Kilduff is looking for a move to an SPL team too

Depends what level of England I suppose. You'd imagine there's some who'd get a pro contract in lower Division Three for example (and who might be young and free enough to view that as a stepping stone up.)

Any scout in Belfield the past year has been linked to Killer. Ipswich and Kilmarnock mentioned most regularly I think.

Maybe we played smart/risky and offered contracts to Killer and Greg knowing they'd be the most likely to leave.

The PFAI held a training camp for professional players that hadn't secured contracts last season. Did many of those players fail to secure any kind of contracts with LOI teams? and with budgets being cut all over the league could it happen even more players this season?

The camp is on again this year anyway; from the New Year I think. Don't recall who was on it last year; was Timmy Purcell (now Waterford) there?

Could lose a few players to the IL as well?

Budgets will be cut but the need for players won't be. It'll just mean the same players are offered less money.

That's assuming there's a closed supply of players. Clubs can use a higher proportion of teenagers in their squads, older players retiring or going to England.

Again Bray's budget will probably one of the smallest in the Premier but i would like to think that because we know were we stand this season the board will release a bit more into the budget than they did thinking we were in the first division.

We have a great base of young players who have a bit of experience but we still need to add that bit of long term experience to the squad if we don't want to have a season like we just had again.

Gust have offered the board a proposal to invest in the club, provide 100 volunteers and an offer to run the club administration 80% part time with a dedicated back to basics, treasurer, secretary, pro and part time admin and bookkeeper, to protect the playing budget that was in place this season and also allow fans more say in the future direction. Gust have ambition to participate with the existing board and not to takeover anything. Dont know how you interpreted anything on gust forum that ties in with your comment above Guitd. The current board were considering plans to make the team totally
amateur and retain a professional admin team. Gust troops have been rallying in the last 15 weeks to help the current board try and see an alternative and also address the hubris and debt built up over last 7 years and was getting out of hand this year with more and more operations cash being used to service debts and liabilities built up in previous seasons which resulted in the release of heary,ryan and creaney. Gust wont know until tuesday next if the proposal is accepted.

Could be wrong but pretty sure he never actually went on the course. Think he put his name down at the endof the season but we offered him a contract before it started.
