Now that multichannel are owned by chorus does that give cork city the oppurtunity to been shown on digital tv.if so then chorus should show eircom league matches etc.there are a lot of city exiles in dublin who cant get to see the lee siders.although money hungry$helbourne would capitalise on this and proably want £10 a match pay per view.rich *******s

Digital
Apparently chorus are indeed in Dublin but probably only in a few areas & definitely not mine. Digital tv is available in even less areas!

NTL "own" Dublin until 2002, so there's no Chorus customers up there. One of the conditions of the recent price rises was that they roll the digital network out faster though, so if Chorus have any sense, they will take advantage of this by striking a deal with the FAI. Unfortunately, Chorus don't really have much sense, and on top of that, the FAI is greedy. I wouldn't be holding my breath now...
Another interesting condition of the agreement with the ODTR (Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation) was that NTL and Chorus' "local monopolies" will now expire in 2002. Unfortunately though, it seems there were no "Internet" conditions attached...

NTL
I just love all those lovely "Digital TV, cable internet access..." ads but when I rang NTL last year about cable web access they said they didn't serve my area & gave me the number for Chorus :D
Now they advertising (obviously cos they got to look like they want to sell it) Digital TV but they never say they only serve a small fraction of Dublin.
BTW i've never had any problem swith basic tv service with NTL & found their customer service prompt & efficient with what I thought was a problem before.... I've heard Chorus are supposed to be abismal?

Hey Joe, look, Pete's got me started on comms! Hur hur...

Well, they don't. The Regulator handed them local monopolies on a plate - with the best of intentions of course, otherwise we'd have cables coming out our butts - and they've abused it ever since. Including not rolling out cable Internet, which, if it had happened, would mean we'd all have DSL by now. If you want cable Internet, you'll need to move to Waterford, because that's the only place in Ireland that's got it. And it's crap apparently.

True, but they'll have to roll it out much faster now because of their deal with the Regulator. Course, whether the Regulator will actually do anything if they don't remains to be seen, because she's toothless. And the Bill before the government to fix all this? It's been pushed back until next year. Cool, huh? We've got real clver techies in Government.

Atrocious. They're useless. And the management haven't a bulls notion. Here's an example:
I had a Chorus lineman in my house recently. We got chatting, and he told me that a while back the linemen volunteered to go into the call centres and teach the operators a little about the system, so they could answer questions more accurately. They offered to do it for free. The management said no. I rest my case.
