Shelbourne chief executive Ollie Byrne insists that his club conducted itself unimpeachably during the failed attempts to sign Alan Cawley from UCD, shoving the blame for the collapsed deal into the court of the league, the player, his former club UCD and his representatives in the PFAI.

The transfer debacle has been unsatisfactorily resolved, with the player unable to turn out for any club until UCD are paid a fee of Eur20,000 - to which Shels believe the Students are not entitled.
